Should have a look at the UK, they have literally just turned off their EV rebate overnight!

Hopefully it was on one of the non shopping days over Easter. “The Base” shopping centre is a ‘mare at the best of times so deciding to put the SuperCharger under the mall wasn’t their finest work.

To be fair, the Hamilton Supercharger was the very first Tesla presence in NZ, even before they had a store. I imagine they had to go with whoever was willing to take a punt and give them land and power for a decent price.

I read this: "The grant ends on future sales, but will still be honored for any buyers that already applied for it." - but what about those who have ordered a car that hasn't yet arrived?

I guess, given it's already been reduced to 1500 pounds, it's not an enormous sum, but could be the difference between making the finances stack up or not. Imagine that happening here, where the rebate is still a significant amount: while I could no doubt stretch to justify the extra cost, I'd be pissed off. For some, though, I imagine it would make it unaffordable/uneconomic.

I know you’re expecting me to say it, so I won’t disappoint.

Time to increase the rebate limit!

Blame Covid, blame Putin, blame whoever you like, but get real and at the very least adjust for inflation. Or better still, make it $100K and be done with it.

That still excludes ‘rich’ people’s cars like BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar, etc so their socialist credentials would remain intact.

it needs to be $1 higher than the Model Y performance, so $100k is not enough, so no

Nearly half of Kiwi car buyers want to buy an electric vehicle.  Globally, 52% of respondents looking to buy a car want an EV.

...  "range anxiety" and charging infrastructure concerns are also reducing, with only 21 percent of EV drivers charging their car every day.

Yeah, but what is more interesting is that the US is pretty much indifferent to it (save for the local political issues of domestic voters) But from a National Economic standpoint the US is insulated by domestic production, (plus it now has a eager LNG market in Europe that wants as much supply as possible)

Previously high oil prices became national security priorities, now its simply an internal shift in income from states like California to Texas, New Mexico and North Dakota

Aussie is the one with real gas supply issues as they are too busy exporting it as LNG and forgot to hold back enough for domestic supply in the Eastern states.

The US seem more excited about their petrol prices nearing $10/US gallon.
