Not from the look of that. Perfect maybe for the lawnmower guy, but even more hopeless than standard ute for accessing stuff that isn't at the back of the tray.

The local lawnmower guy probably doesn't use a double cab ute anyway, because the tray is too high and too short, and the $30/hour pay rate doesn't justify a $60k toy, so a $120k toy - I really doubt it. An old Mazda Bounty is about where it ends.

From the wikipedia page, the project was supposed to include a van, what's been delivered so far is a toy / plaything, that'll probably sell well anyway, because it's probably a very good toy (despite looking like it's made from recycled urinal offcuts).

Can we have a Model S in stainless steel unibody, too please? Paint chips will be a thing of the past. Perhaps Jony Ive can be involved, so it can be unibody aluminium? lol.

But seriously, the kids immediately loved it. (I'm sure there is a slew of jokes as to why)

Just with everything it takes mature minds a little bit longer to adapt to change and embrace the future.

I would order one in a heart beat.. but as someone with a land yacht that is already 5m long (Model S), the 5.9m length and 2M width will categorically be a nightmare on our roads. Someone said Hummer H1 - that couldn't be more accurate!

Words defy me. Devotees to the cult of Electric Elon, oblivious to the Emporers new clothes, have pre-ordered over 150k of these comical tanks despite having no information on release date, vehicle safety, ride, handling, practicality or reliability. We are truly in the end days.

Edit. I've subsequently learned that pre-order is only $100 down with no further commitment, so hardly serious intent, more a cheap price for bragging rights even if you never follow up on the purchase.

I’ve never seen a concept unveiling where that information was provided. Bit early for it don’t you think?

Not to mention people were taken for rides in it, which is completely unusual for any concept unveiling.

People putting $100 USD are just indicating support. If you read into it too much you’ll need a self sustaining bunker disconnected from the internet soon.

I didn't look hard enough to see the specs...that is a HUGE truck.

There's not a lot about it that I like, TBH. It's like something from Logan's Run.

I didn't look hard enough to see the specs...that is a HUGE truck.

NZ does not have many vehicles of a similar size a as good guide,

But one that is close for Length and Width is this , the LDV long wheel base ( and even then the Tesla is still about 10cms longer)

The Van is much taller, but the L+W dimensions show that you would not be able to park the Tesla truck in most NZ supermarket or mall car parks, and as for on the street, forget it....... getting a Loading Zone sticker might be helpful :)

I'm wondering whether Elon deliberately set up the breaking windows. The launch would probably have got pretty wide coverage anyway - but a fake windows faux pas ensured that it got much wider coverage. Very clever. People would still know that the windows in the finished product will be up to expected spec - but it went viral in the meantime.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

"Ugly" is subjective. Plenty of your choices would be considered "Ugly" by a large portion of the population too. If it's not for you, then that's fine but claiming people are part of the "cult of Elon" because they like something is a bit on the nose.

I wasn't referring to the fact that some people "like" a product. Having said that, the overwhelming vast majority of opinion that I have seen about the Cyber truck online refers to it's looks in a negative way. The issue in my view is more the "fanatical" way people go on about Telsa (it feels like Apple Mania all over again) products, and what happens dare you suggest even the slightest negative thing about it.

Your reply has done nothing to divorce me from that view.

I feel Tesla would be better off licensing their vehicle manufacture to companies that know how to design and make vehicles. This thing looks terrible and reminds me of the Meccano cars and trucks I made as a kid.

You're a human are you not, who has their own tastes and likes. It's expected that some of your likes are considered ugly by others. Ugly is an opinion and others are going to have differing opinions on what is ugly and what isn't. I'm not saying you have to like it but going around bashing people and classing them as a "cult" because they DO like the way something looks is a dick move straight out of high school. One can express their like or dislike of something without needing to try and bring the "other side" down with them. This doesn't have anything to do with liking Tesla or not, it's just common decency.
