Anyone been to the JP court on these kinda Bus lane infringements?
I got the same at Khyber, Sunday afternoon they changed the hours of the lane to 7am to 7pm Mon to Sunday for Trial till May 2020.
My bad, can't get out of having the hearing now so wondering if it'll make any difference if I attend or not? Have sent submission, still expecting the fine and court costs but at least I had a say for the $270,000 /hr I'm getting charged for my 2 seconds @ 50kmph in the bus lane more than the 50m I am allowed lol

I went through last weekend turning left on Broadway towards Parnell from Khyber Pass. I agree its not really clear what specific road rules apply. Even though the left hand lane was clear I made a point of waiting until the left turning lane starts before changing lanes into it, even waiting in line behind the right turning traffic. The car behind me did the same lol.

Is it really that complicated? Bus lane = buses not cars. A queue isn't a reason to drive in a bus lane.

I don't think the hourly rate for the offending is that relevant.

Fines are intended to be punitive.

That said, I think it is crazy that the find of driving in a bus lane is way more than the fine for parking in one, where the latter has a larger impact on the passage of buses.

If that were the case then there would be zero tolerance for driving in a bus lane, and yet you can do so for 50m before your turn. The problem with Khyber Pass is that the signage and road markings are ambiguous.

Ambiguous, and IMO, deliberately difficult to read.

The operating times are written in small text, and rely on the user interpreting multiple lines of text indicating the times the bus lane is in operation.

The signs should have larger text, use 24 hour format, and the applicable days should be in even larger text at the bottom. If you can't establish if the bus lane can or can't be used with a quick glance, the signage is not adequate IMO.

Also, why aren't they fining bus drivers who drive in a 'bus only lane' outside of the designated hours? Those lanes aren't available for other vehicles outside of bus lane hours.

Because the $100k sucker punch at the end of Khyber pass has been used to Gentrify another part of the city that nobody can access with quality public transport.

Happy happy joy joy

Newmarket and a lack of quality public transport? It has three train lines at the city’s second busiest station, multiple frequent bus routes (inner link, outer link, 30, 70 etc etc) travelling through it.

What?

if its got hours on it, then outside those hours its a normal lane that anyone can use

got an example?

In some parts of the Auckand motorway network, the emergency stopping area is used as a bus lane. These are labelled as being for buses only and have time constraints. Buses often use these outside of designated hours and merge after the 'lanes' have ended. They cannot be used as lanes by other vehicles at any time.

EDIT: Here's an example. Note the lane is for buses only, has defined hours, and the lane is red, not the usual 'bus lane' green.

given they are using a shoulder not a actual lane, thats a bit different, and i agree they should be fining drivers. as they should also be fining "not in service" buses for driving in a transit lane

lol

People being on busses benefits other road users since they are not adding the equivalent number of cars to the road.
