I'd say higher than a sedan / hatch of the same size, but not stupidly tall.

Got an appointment for a test drive next week. Apparently over 500 people in Welly have exressed interested in a test drive and 120 people have boight it. Well I think the dealer meant 120 people have plunked down $1000 deposit who could change their minds after the drive.

Word round the dealer campfire is that an Auckland dealer has sold 300+

I suspect initial allocations will run out rapidly

The Aussies seem a little miffed that it has arrived here first.
To be honest, I think their distribution/sales/service model seems to be causing them some issues.
Because here it has been slotted into traditional sales agents, I guess they are all ready to sell.
They look to be opting for aTesla type of approach in AU, with a showroom where you can go and look/try and then buy online. Support and service being contracted out.
If they get that working, I suppose they could get sharper pricing than here.

I saw comments from an AU article, that seemed bewildered as to what use heated seats would be. I suppose only the southern parts an all of NZ would appreciate that.

I don't think theres anything wrong as such with the Tesla approach, if you have the brand awareness and dare I say it, near fanaticism that the brand seems to foster as Tesla, but BYD isn't there yet.

Yes, having seen them in the flesh and ridden in one (BYD), they are very good quality to my laymans eyes, but I have never been in any other EV so really don't have a basis for comparison. All the dealerships have taken large numbers of pre-orders and probably quadruple the number of enquiries which may or may not turn into sales. The sales staff are now working hard at contacting to arrange test drives etc.

I would expect interest to remain strong, the initial shipment to sell out and possibly sell out the 2nd shipment too before the standard range arrives in Q4.

Dealers are still limited by their ability to process and get ready a car for sale, the all have to go through pre-delivery process of groom, wof, registration, system updates etc which means they can only physically deliver so many cars per day and these are in addition to their other vehicle deliveries on preexisting lines, so we aren't going to see 3-400 (or however many it is that Ateco brought in) on day 1, so whilst they are available to sell, being "ready to sell" is quite different.

I suspect that's 300 people who have put down a deposit. There might be a percentage who back out after driving it.

I personally would be miffed if having put down my $1,000 and then deciding to buy it having to wait till the end of the year for the car. The idea of the deposit was to lock down a unit.

If however you want a red car you need to wait till the end of the year because the current shipment doesn't have that color.

The BYD Atto 3 has been approved for sale in Australia just weeks before deliveries are set to begin.

I wonder when it was approved in NZ?

Unfortunately for us Southerner's who are obviously not trustworthy enough, our only "local" stealership option is pre-ordering through Euromarque Christchurch.
They only accept a $2000 non-refundable deposit for a car which has not even been available to test drive.

I was more than happy to put in a pre-order to secure an early vehicle delivery, then drive from Dunedin to Christchurch for a test-drive when it became available.

That was until I was informed that a deposit would not be refundable.
So my current situation is wait until there are more NZ reviews on the test-drive vehicles, and then pre-order..

I was told if I didn't like it after my test drive this Wednesday I could get my deposit back as presumably there would be plenty of people willing to take my blue one (LR)

From what I understand, its on a per dealer basis. Did you order through Euromarque Christchurch?

I emailed and asked if the deposit was refundable (after seeing remarks that in some dealerships it was not, and a mixed bag of deposit $ amounts), and got back "no it's not sorry, take it for a test drive when it's available soon".
I also assumed that there would be plenty in line to snap it up if there was a change of mind from a buyer.

And that is why traditional dealerships are getting their lunch eaten the world over.

Order it through another, more realistic, dealership?

At the very least complain to BYD NZ.

When I set up my test the sales person said there were 500 people wanting to test the two cars they have but I got in next week. Perhaps because I had plunked down $1000 deposit before and told them I was interested in the blue one.
