Dingbatt:

I see in today’s NZHerald (‘Driven’ section) Volvo have announced the XC40 and C40 Recharge prices and their release in NZ this year. No attempt to offer anything under the rebate limit.

Ranging from $84K to $98K for the XC40 and $86K to $101K for the C40.

Are they based on the Polestars?

New new Toyota EV , BZ4x , based on the UK price released, it looks like it will be over the 80k rebate in NZ. I see the Subaru Version is also coming, but no mention on price.

This article seems to suggest that there might be an AWD Solterra available under the $80k limit but it's hard to say given that it won't be released for another nine months.

If it does fall under the rebate threshold then I would be very interested.

A pretty spurious argument! I can think of a lot of other words, phrases and symbols that were used in the past and have been left behind (by many/most people)...

There is even a company called it, if you look up Jap Imports.  Its used in this context as an abbreviation for a country like Aus  etc  ...

Does look interesting.  Charge time (1.5 hrs) seems a little long though, assuming that is for DC fast charging?

Yes, they don't look like they are an outstanding vehicle, but Toyota is very conservative, and their reputation is all about reliability. So many will just want that from an EV. I personally am turned off by all the electric gadgets etc which some manufacturers offer , like door handles that fly out when approaching the car, because you know that with water ingress etc, that they may eventually break and they won't be cheap to repair. That is if you can get parts by then.

People who want the reliability of a Jap brand like Toyota will be holding out for some Japanese EVs.  With NZs high inflation, I think they may need to raise the limit. The problem when governments set these figures, but don't tie them to inflation, so they become less and less relevant. With house prices dropping and a likely recession, I can't see as many people buying EVs, and paying over 80k for a car. Maybe there will be more lease deals, and more people will lease instead of buy. Although I see one bank is offering a special loan to add onto the house house, which allows for purchasing an EV...

Yes, I think the only one buying the BZ4x are going to be Toyota loyalists. Overall, it's terrible value when compared to the many other similar EVs available. It's a 2015/2016 EV trying to be modern in 2023.

Keep in mind that Toyota has already put a recall on it due to a risk of the wheels falling off.

More details on LDVs EV ute

My first thought is "It must be built with girders" with only a WLTP range of 325km off an 88Kwh battery,

That's 264wh / km..... Assuming 86kWh available.

325/86=0.264kWh

As efficiency goes, that's not the best by a long way.

You can hardly expect a Ranger driver to want a ute that is efficient. That's like, the opposite of the point of having a ute.

I think your first adjective is enough reason - the Y is substantially larger than the Atto 3, especially in terms of boot space. The Atto would better be compared with smaller cars like the MG (at the cheap end) or the Leaf.

The significant number of orders for the Y on the very first day shows a real pent up demand for a spacious vehicle, in particular one suitable as a family tourer. There's nothing else under the rebate cap that can provide this, hence me putting my order in on day one!

As for speed - I saw they claim the long range Atto makes it to 100 in 7.3 seconds. If that's actually correct it's close enough to the RWD MY, which claims 6.9. (Many reviews and comments report that our (edit, as in the one available in NZ) entry level Y is way slower off the mark then the 3, even if showing good acceleration above 50. I live in hope this will change with a later software update, as surely one can elect to gain economy through careful driving, as opposed to deliberately restricting acceleration?).

i see. hard to know the size difference without a direct comparison video for example.
