DS248:

Only the braked towing capacity is higher for the Kia.  I doubt that many privately owned trailers are braked?

Plenty of privately owned trailers are braked.  But you don't have to brake a trailer until a GVM of 2,000kg.

The manufacturer's tow rating has no statutory standing in NZ.   Land Transport recommends they are adhered to.

The 750kg unbraked is based on Australian legislation, which I understand require brakes on light trailers over 750kg.

If I had an EV towing vehicle, I would be looking to do as much braking as possible with the vehicle, rather than the trailer, in order to capture that lost momentum via regenerative braking.  Trailer brakes will just convert it to heat.

I'd be going for electrically actuated hydraulic brakes, with a controller.  You can then control the sensitivity.

Another possibly better option to satisfy some of the off-road / ute brigade?

Classic landrover look. That is an excellent warranty. The article does not mention wading capability. The 400mm ground clearance is a good start with or without it.

Damn, I knew I should have patented that design for a car I drew when I was 5.

Not the attitude I live from Renault after Zoe's zero star safety test.

Instead of fixing the car's safety, he wants the EU to loosen up the regulations. His talk of "playing the [safety scoring] game" is callous also.

Maybe we should add lead to gasoline also :(

Autocar UK: Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo has called for a debate on whether Euro NCAP safety tests are still fit for purpose.

[Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo] comments follow a spate of recent disappointing scores for some of the company’s vehicles in tests. These include a zero-star result for the Renault Zoe, one-star results for the Dacia Jogger and Dacia Spring and two-star result for the Dacia Sandero, all largely but not exclusively as a result of poor ratings for automatic electronic safety systems, which help prevent potential accidents but have come in for criticism for adding cost to cars.

I see that Gaspy now has an EV  checkbox for locating charging stations.

Yeah, they added that a few months ago - I re-downloaded the app to try it out, but found I preferred Plugshare. I guess if you have a mix of ICE and BEV (or a PHEV) it would make sense to use it for both fuel and charging, but as a BEV-only household I've since deleted it.

What's worrying me coming up to a decently long road trip in a BEV is not so much finding the charging stations, but the probable wait times! To at least reduce our dependence on them we've arranged with all B&Bs we're staying at that have the ability for us to charge over-night to do this, but it's places like Kaikoura I'm sure we'll be waiting a while.

An overnight trip at the weekend was a good taster, where I charged up on the first day on the way to our destination, which meant by the time we were coming home the next day we'd have been pushing it to get home (I'd been thinking of ensuring the battery was preconditioned, but when it comes to a faster charging time vs ensuring enough charge I now know what I need to go for!). This is when the Warehouse free charger came in handy (along with carrying a T2>T2 cable), as it allowed me to top up enough to ensure we'd get home without issue.

Unfortunately the majority of those vehicles “coming in 2023”, won’t be “coming” here to NZ. Maybe a couple of the European, Korean (and possibly Japanese) models might make it here.

Video doesn’t include any Chinese vehicles though.

Weird set of circumstances to cause a fire in Chey bolt, and it has NOTHING TO DO WITH BATTERIES.

1) crash
2) front seatbelt pretensioner exhaust gases
3) blow on floor carpet
4) fire (maybe)

Here's how you can make a RHD version. And yes they do this for real for postal vehicles in the US.

Probably legal IN NZ, because maybe there's similar kits for teaching students driving; I used to see cars in the US with two steering wheels for this reason.

Postal vehicle, universal left hand to right hand drive conversion

Reuters: GM recalls 140,000 Chevrolet Bolt EVs over fire risks

General Motors Co (GM.N) said Tuesday it is recalling 140,000 Chevrolet Bolt EVs in North America because the carpet could catch fire after a crash where a front seat belt pretensioner deploys.

The U.S. automaker said the recall covers various 2017 through 2023 model year Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicles due to rare instances of front seatbelt pretensioner exhaust gases coming in contact with floor carpeting fibers, after a vehicle crash, which could cause a fire.

And completely irrelevant in an EV News and Discussion thread.
