Yeah, the only real feature request channel is to be big enough on Twitter that Elon notices your tweet.

But yeah, the alert sound was for if you were starting to move into a lane with a car. I guess Tesla want you to pay for the FSD package that includes the functionality that allows the car to change lanes when there's a gap so you don't have to worry about blind spots and the car handles it for you. I have this feature in mine (due to the no longer available Enhance Autopilot package)… but I will still check the mirror and camera feed myself before letting the car do it. One handy feature of this is that it kinda has what you're asking for - it will bring up the camera feed for that side of the car before turning on the indicator or attempting to move itself.

To its credit, it has never suggested moving into an occupied lane, nor has it moved when I've manually told it to do a lane change when there was a car there.

I would happily pay for parts of the FSD on a pick’n-mix basis. Things like BSM we are discussing and others like traffic light recognition and warning for me. Not really interested in summon or navigate on autopilot.

Maybe I’ll resurrect my Account now Twitter’s not owned by the Saudis and American venture capitalists and see if Mr Musk will take a suggestion to set up an AI channel to take feature requests/suggestions.

Yeah the package I got was Enhanced Autopilot rather than Full Self Driving. They had this available for a limited time in 2020 for $5k and it gives all the functionality of what FSD currently has available in NZ, minus the stopping at traffic lights feature. Seemed like a no brainer tbh.

I didn't think I'd use summon all that much, and I don't use smart summon a whole lot other than to "show off" to those interested. However "dumb summon" which only goes back and forward the length of the car in a straight line is actually quite useful. Someone parked way too close to you? Just open the app and have the car shift out of the car park. Need to park up close next to a wall or bush but don't want to have to squeeze out? Stop the car in front of the car park, double tap the park button on the stalk, get out of the car and the car will put itself in the park when you shut the door.

Tesla has made Enhanced Autopilot available for purchase again for $5700. All the same features of the $11.4k FSD package but without the ability to stop at traffic lights.

Damn... that would be really nice, but there is no way I can justify it.

Oh, you'll find a way. I managed to back when I got it in September 2020 and I don't regret it, despite not feeling that way at first. I regularly use Auto Lane Change, Summon and Autopark (now that it uses the cameras rather than just the ultrasonics)

Is there any option for a monthly 'rental'? Perhaps would be useful to be able to trial it to see if it's really worth that many $$.

There's no subscription option in NZ, yet. However, you have two days to refund it if you decide that you don't want it.

Are all of the features allowed in NZ?

$11400 was out of the question, but $5700……..

I wonder if not enough customers are willing to pony up the sum for FSD so they needed to offer this again. The other thing missing is (the promised) nav on city streets, but NZ probably wouldn’t allow that anyway.

I’m not fussed on the “stop at traffic lights” but I did like the “lights gone green, you dummy!” chime that the FSD equipped car I test drove had.

The Auto Lane Change intrigues me most. Particularly since there isn’t blind spot monitoring in the traditional sense. Do you indicate, and if it’s safe, the car changes lanes?

If it was subscription it might be $NZ200/month for EA if it’s $US200 for FSD, so just over 2 year payback. It’s a shame the software enhancement doesn’t stay with the customer rather than the vehicle.

Edit: Oh and thanks for the heads up @Obraik

Yes all the features work here.

Nav on city streets = FSD, our laws are very open to this, and it is currently a level 2 system anyhow so would be fine (as in the beta)

It depends, on motorways it will change lanes all by itself,  it shows the target lane and highlites any vehicles there that are a problem, but you can initiate it with an indicator

Is there any indication of for how long this will be available? I ask as adding it now would tip us over the rebate, but I would see this as an aftermarket upgrade later…

If I didn't have to stump up for a Leaf battery as soon as EV's Enhanced release it, I might consider it.

Can it be done as a separate transaction then? Or will it inevitably appear on the invoice for the car’s purchase, and hence be considered part of the car’s purchase price as would any other add-on? I assume the latter, but here’s hoping.
