@jonathan18 - Yes, that first link is the one. The first service was $188, the second one I will need to check but it was about $300. I'll take a look at the service sheet for that but I believe it was essentially the exact same check so I'm not sure why it was so much more (actually less because they didn't valet the car like they did for the first service). I can confirm that once I'm home tonight though.

Interesting interview on RNZ this morning on the subject of RUCs and the progress that is being made in what is expected to be a major shake up of the system by NZTA. Moves afoot but very little that is being made available to the public.

Cheers, @maoriboy, that’s good info thanks. I called into Cartown today (how did you find them, to deal with by the way?) to clarify a few things and they’d just drawn up a likely servicing schedule for the MG4; it has the same 24 month/40k km gaps between services of the gen 2 ZS EV, with estimated costs of $300 and $830 (alternating costs every two years).

I was also able to confirm ORCs as $1195, so that pushes up the base model to $41170 after rebate; the V2L adapter is $300, but I think worth having for emergencies (will replace our emergency generator we had stolen!).

Couldn’t get any solid idea as to how good MG is at providing software updates to sort problems; they also thought the base model didn’t come with one-pedal driving mode (which worked pretty well in the model I drove; I’ve read somewhere though it needs to be turned on each drive, despite being buried in a menu!), but the leaflet is clear all models come with this.

All up, my wife’s really keen on getting it; I’m still debating whether a s/h Model 3 could be worth it, but the problem there is it’s unusual to find a decent example below about $45k.

Any opinions on how the MG4 compares with the Opel Mokka-e (std or SRI version - $56,990 + ORC). Price of the latter is higher than the base model MG4's and it seems to be slightly smaller. But other features / looks?

I've read/watched a bit about these two models with the same thought in mind, ie whether either was a better option than the MG4. I came to the conclusion that, for at least for my family's circumstances, they weren't really in the running for such reasons as:

they're both very small cars (see stats below), with both being smaller than the MG4 let alone the ZS.
both built on ICE platforms, with all the inefficiency that comes with this (eg, I watched a review of the Mokka-e and it was quite apparent that entry/egress from/to the rear was a joke)
pretty sluggish (the Mokka in particular; same motor as the smaller Corsa)
concern about maintenance/repair costs (given they're European cars)

While the price may not be too different, in our case we're needing to be driven by what they deliver; and just the idea of getting our two boys in the back of either of those was enough to rule both out! If size isn't an issue and you want something that looks pretty funky and a bit different then either could be a goer I guess... It's good to see prices dropping (noting I think both these models are due a refresh?) and there being more options at the more affordable end of the EV market.

I might swap from Genesis when my contract is finished in November. The per kWh prices are comparable and I could use those 3 hours to get my place nice and toasty in the morning as well as charging the car.

Looking at the plans, the "Free" power is paid for by having the regular Kwh price 1c/unit higher....

So if you can load shift larger chunks into the free period you come out ahead, but if you've got lots of static and time dependant load ( cooking/washing etc) that you can't shift you might end up paying more over a year...

@jonathan18 I found them pretty good to deal with overall. Quick to communicate and quick to fix any issues I had (minor things like clips popping out). Haven't had to deal with them much which is a good thing I guess. One thing I do remember about the first service was asking them to include a battery SOH check as this wasn't originally included, but I did notice they did this without asking for the second service.

I get this a lot for my address, it's not exactly rural but it is in a new Fletchers subdivision. Gas providers also throw up errors as well.

Wonder why that is.

I've raised an enquiry with Z and will update if or when they reply. My reason for interacting with them was to see what FET they were offering, if any.
