2006 Volvo XC70 2.5 Turbo: $134.95 per annum.

Cheaper than my wife's Nissan Tiida, which is a 1.5l hatch at $198.20 per annum

Must be the laundry list of safety features in my Volvo

yes but that still has ambiguities on it for some cars, like for instances a honda integra, 1985-2006 are all in the same band, where as a honda civic, which is very similar has 3 different bands.

Not defending the new process, as I am sure it is nearly impossible to accurately account for all possible makes/models/variants, but perhaps they have more specific data on the Civic models allowing a better determination? They may also outwardly appear 'similar', but underneath they could have design differences. Just because model/brand "A" has 4 doors and 2 airbags doesn't mean it will perform the same in a crash or have the same safety profile as model/brand "B" with 4 doors and 2 airbags.

My Mazda car with 6 airbags, no stability control, and a 4 star ANCAP rating is in the same band as my Ford SUV which has more airbags, and ESP and a 5 star rating. I know which I would rather be driving in a crash...go figure.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I just rang the ACC number (0800 222 776) about my 1998 r34 skyline category (cat 1). I was told there's a known issue with the skyline grouping which they are rectifying. They took my details and will let me know the correct rego fee once its sorted.
If you haven't already paid your rego you might like to give them your details too.

They have lumped ALL skylines in as one (from 1977 onwards). Bit unfair I think.

Getting rid of it shortly.

Same for my 2002 Skyline (V35)

Really seems like its been put together by some monkey with a blatant disregard for the difference in vehicle models and their relative safety features if it is the correct pricing.

I will only get a 3 month renewal when mine is due (1st August) if it hasn't been rectified by then. Hopefully they do not take forever to fix it.

Because there's no levy on the diesel fuel itself, so they have to charge it with the rego. (Yes, there's an ACC levy on petrol).

may very well be the case but the chassis' are almost identical for the same year, along with most of the other parts being interchangeable. also there are a tonne of integras on the roads, probably not as many as the civics but certainly enough to have some decent crash data from

just seems odd that a car from 1985 has the same crash rating as a car from 2001-2006.
