Haha.... but you promised in this youtube clip from RNZ just over a year ago.
Next Christmas will still qualify as next year'.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
But Covid*…………
*Note: This will be the standard excuse for anything late or over budget for the next 2-5 years.

A lot of work is still needed at Mckays and there is a very severe shortage of cones
Of course - nothing can be done without a few thousand cones...

The Cones are growing in strength and cunning as the insidious plot by their Commander in Chief Napoleon Coneapart for Global domination takes hold virtually unopposed except for some brave souls who managed to isolate some cones atop some trees.
Transmission Gully will not open in 2021, transport agency confirms
Quite annoying. No way the delay is due simply to covid, so, how about those penalty's for not opening on time?
Are they going to open TG just in time for a public holiday? That worked out well for the Northern Gateway. It was the cheapest parking in Auckland.

the Level 4 lockdown in August was a "Force majeure" in the contract.
Until an addendum is signed off with a new completion date there is no ability to hold anyone to anything... as is being witnessed
The project has been hit with two lockdowns and some very bad weather events. The event last week probably created remedial work to be done. We need to forget it, it will open when it is ready which is better than opening when it is not ready.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

I wish we could erase the lockdowns and extreme weather events with just a strike through but life sadly is not like that. Prolonged wet weather and weather extremes do impact road construction especially when building the layers and sealing. The two lockdowns are a fact and affected construction and all sectors.

I am sure NZ has more cones per capita than every other country

Waka Kotahi has made it sound like it's just a series of paperwork issues delaying opening, but there's physical works to do too. For example, the area between SH59 and SH1 at Mackays Crossing has ~500mm piles of gravel on the final road formation, which presumably need to be dug out, the subgrade prepared, sealed and line-marked - way more than a week's work - before the road can open . And for some reason, a couple of portacom-style buildings were dumped on SH59 between the Paekakariki and Mackays interchanges last week.
They are pretty close, but I wouldn't put money on a January 2022 opening.
Bring back the ministry of works. At least when the job is inhouse, you can do proper investigations when a project goes tits up, and punish/fire those who made the mistakes. Plus the incentives are aligned better - no more incentive to inflate costs to extract more government money and thus make more profit.
I seriously don't understand how inserting a profit motive into the job of public works is supposed to improve anything or save any money.

My take is that completion is much more likely to be "before Easter" than "by Anniversary Day" - I think I mean 2022, but ...
Sigh
From Stuff’s coverage “Out of 100 safety and quality assurance tests that need to be met before the road can legally open, just 41 have been submitted and only 34 accepted, as of 10 December. ... Of the 45 consent tasks required, 17 have been completed, 26 are under way and have been progressed to varying degrees and two are not yet started.”
Or, to put it more plainly:
Looking at the consent tasks: GWRC will presumably close from 23rd or possibly 24th December until January 10th, giving at most 15 working days between tomorrow and Friday 14th January (which seems to me to be close enough to mid-January). I reckon the idea that GWRC would complete two unstarted consents from “Go” to “Approved” in fifteen working days is completely bananas.
Bah, humbug!
And a Happy TG-less Christmas to you all
