The tesla is already hard enough for someone to get into and drive and these changes make it even harder for people to use without "training" in using them.

I'm currently waiting for a call/sms re my Model 3 delivery. I received an email the other day to attend a webinar to learn how to use/drive the car. So it looks like it's headed that way.

I was quite lucky mate. Managed to pick up a new Model 3 Performance that popped up as existing stock. Only drama was I couldn't obviously do a custom order. I settled for Red paint and black interior. I do like the red though, so that worked for me!

You do realise that red paint is bad on any performance vehicle?  The cops will always see red cars over other colours, so the probability of getting caught if you speed or overtake is much higher.  There have been a number of studies on the colours of cars and how it affects being able to notice them and red always is very noticeable.  Back when I was 7 or 8, our next door neighbour's adult daughter was surprised at how bad the red colour problem was when she bought a red sports car to replace a silver one.  The cops would always pull her over to do a breath test, or for any other reason they could think of.  That did not happen with her previous car.

For those of you who are considering Model 3s, my personal pick (aside from LR, Performance) is to get a 2021 model with 5.6 sec motor with either smaller battery or a unicorn. I find that particular models were bang for buck especially those of you who come from a relatively quick cars.

I don't understand when people say they are "upgrading" from Model 3 to Model Y on their sales advert. It's not an upgrade, it's just changing to a bigger, fatter, and not as fun car. I understand people have different needs and for people with 2 childre, I am sure Model Y will fit better to their lifestyle. I have done the same, but I prefer my June 2021 SR+ with a quick motor any day over Model Y.

So I might be "not fun", but I was driving one of those unicorn Model 3s earlier this year and I ended up putting it in chill mode.

Sure, it is fun to be able to be a "race driver" from the red light sometimes, and its a fun experience to share with people. But for me - it is not something I would use on a daily basis.

The Model Ys standard mode is chill enough for me, and the utility of a car with proper space to haul things is a lot more important to me than 0-100 times.

Besides, the range on the Model Y is about the same as the 80% charged Model 3 Long range, and I can charge the battery to 100% as much as I like (according to Tesla).

To me the Model Y is a much better car than the Model 3 SR models. But I realise that that doesn't hold true for everyone and I am not claiming it is objectively better for everyone, but it definitely is for me and my priorities.

I guess my intent was that if anyone was thinking of a second hand Model 3 - I certainly wouldn't think it's a step down from what's available brand new. I agree being fast is not everyone's cup of tea - but I come from quick cars, Focus RS / ST / modified GTIs / RX7 etc. So for me, it needs to be more than a 'car'. Model Y is a great all arounder for most people. I think Model 3 still has more sophisticated feel to the suspension and has that 'sport car feel' to it. My Model 3 LR with acceleration boost has slightly more range at 80% than Y (point of buying LR and getting AB boost rather than Performance was that extra-range and our steep driveway) - but Model 3SR+ was so close to it that I thought for what I paid for last year, it felt like a bargain. Now comparing Model Y to Model 3 LR+AB - I prefer driving Model 3 any day of the week.

I no longer track as that is my exclusion criteria on my life insurance; but if I would go back; it will be a new Civic Type R where I can push it all day without worrying about breaking something.

Summary is if you get can a second hand one for a good price; I wouldn't hesitate getting SR+.

I got the original unicorn: the Long Range Performance (aka "Stealth"). It has the LR hardware (and price) with the same rated range but has the Performance software (so, 3.3 0-100, Track Mode, etc). Every now and then I like to give it the full power on the onramps and get that lightheaded feeling 😉

Has anybody got the 2022.44.25.2 (aka Holiday 2022) update yet?

Of most interest to me is the simplified HVAC fan controls as I find the slider quite fiddly to operate on the move (and voice not always working).

Also the return of ‘cards’.

The rest is just fluff (imo).

Not convinced by the shift to only three fan settings (especially on the eve of a long road trip in our car!); agree it can be a bit difficult to select an exact speed while on the go, but from 10 to three is fairly extreme and I’m worried it’ll not provide enough graduation. Five would have been a good compromise.

I just got 2022.44.25.1 also. Seems it’s doing its next batch of rolling out. Surprised we didn’t go straight to 25.2 though.
