The Honda City EV is apparently available for order in Europe. Hopefully this gets a decent interior and a range of cica 250km. It has some sweet Mini Clubman/OG Civic throwback looks so I'm sort of keen.

It does look beautiful, but unfortunate that so many manufacturers have learned from Teslas trick of 'sell it years before delivery' :(

Orders open "early 2019" for a "late 2019 delivery"- I would peg that as more likely 2020 for volume delivery

That black stripe with a blue light at one end located low on the doors looks like a battery level indicator with 1 bar of charge left.

Yeah, but at the moment that is all it is,

We have no idea about range or price, two pretty important things when you buy an EV.....

A friend of mine in CA has just replaced his i3 with a Chevy Bolt. He was thinking of a used Tesla S but apparently the insurance on Tesla's is a killer.

He loves the Bolt. Much better range than the i3, no suicide doors and nicer styling. It does take a bit longer to fully charge even though he has the i3 charger setup in his garage because the battery is larger. It is as peppy as the i3 and has many more cool tech features.

Love to be able to buy one here but there is no RHD version around yet. But I recall reading somewhere there was a lobby or request to allow LHD EV's to be imported so we could have a ready market here. For some strange reason you can import a LHD performance car from the US (like a Corvette, Charger etc.) because there is an exception for performance cars but you can't import a standard LHD drive unless presumably it's classed as a classic card.

Chevy aren't doing a RHD,....so yeah. They aren't out to save the planet. That's why I'm buying a Tesla Model 3 the minute I'm able.......to support the only automaker who "gets it". Even Nissan.....who make the LEAF in small numbers with deliberately crippled range elements......are pushing big motor SUVs and Utes......they just don't get it. Not even close.

The inability to import these zero emission LHDs just shows our governments still have not thought through the emissions impact on their regulatory framework.

We still don't even have emissions testing for cars and trucks. The black clouds up the Bombay Hill show how bad that is.

Hang on a minute - why should fans of a muscle car, some odd Euro hot performance car etc be granted exemption, when they have absolutely nothing to prove that I'm not equally as enthusiastic about wanting to import some 2002 RHD 5 door gas guzzling polluting heap of crap that was unpopular enough not to sell 20,000 units? Because you think it's a POS?

It's absolutely about "playthings".

You've gotta hit three of the four categories - production numbers are out, and it's hard to see it being considered a 'collectable' given that it's still being made.

It's absolutely about "playthings".

"Playthings" yes, but not the loaded "millionaires" aspect. I didn't see many Veyrons, Enzos or Zondas on that list of LHD exemptions that had granted, which was the point I'm actually making.

There's a similar list of criteria for getting an SIV exemption for RHD vehicles that are less than 20 years old. If you can find broad consensus amongst enthusiast magazines that your 2002 5 door gas guzzling heap of crap is considered a classic then you can apply just like anyone else.

Why in god's name should the subjective opinion of other "enthusiasts" deciding what's "classic" or not - which may be the complete opposite of mine - be given special consideration by a government agency?

Yea so it's a pretty straight-forward way to allow car enthusiast to import cars that are still interesting but may not meet one or all of the frontal impact or safety standards in very very limited numbers.

I don't make the rules, I'm just telling you what they are and how they get applied. But I'm guessing the opinions of people who write about cars and who deal with them for a living are probably a little more highly respected than mine or yours.

Unlike most cars we can buy here or import, playthings are not imported here, and they arent RHD
