I really hope the Atto 3 have better high beams than the BYD Tang

yeah would be good to know, it looks worse than my $100 LED bike light.
however the best ones are Merc and BMW, cost mortgage and a kidney
BYD is cheap so naturally ... what does one expect!
heavenlywild: My two concerns after visiting the Newmarket dealer are:
1) The SIM in the car has 1gb of data. It is a French telecom SIM! I asked what would happen if I used up the 1GB. The helpful guy explained that at 5k there is a free service and that's when they'll swap it out for a Spark SIM. What the pricing for data looks like is still TBC.
2) The maps feature is something I would use a lot as hooking up to Android Auto with 2 young kids is not something I have the time for. I really want to see how good the maps are.
..
The Wellington dealer said maps are likely to arrive in October pending negotiations with Google which suggests it will be Google Maps based which is good if only that you don't have to rely on BYD to do maps updates.

The Tang is a considerably older car and I believe it has halogen lights. The Atto 3 is LED... But yes, we'll have to see what we get
Was the BYD Tang imported here or the view of the lights based on overseas reviews?
None of the video reviews of the of the Atto3 talked about head light brightness issues.
droidxt: Test drove the BYD Atto 3 today.
It felt like an AliExpress version of the Model Y.
LOL, hey nothing wrong with AliExpress.
On a serious note, thanks for sharing. I was going to test drive it but reading your experience I will now save the hassle.
I guess you just can't create the same experience as a Tesla at 50k.

Software: Terrible. Rubbish generic android operating system with poor design. Autosteer/lane assist didn't work properly and the collision avoidance only activated once. (Couldn't find maps in the system either?) Android auto would solve most of these issues but I found the software to be similar to a generic AliExpress tablet.
It also makes stupid sounds/audio when using the indicators and while the car is creeping. I'm sure you can turn it off but that was bloody annoying.
Driving: not as quick as the Model Y RWD but does the job around the city. Front wheel drive so you will feel the torque steer when giving it throttle. Managed to get a bit of wheel spin and understeer through corners (batman tyres)🤣 A lot more body roll but then again it did feel a little more comfortable than the Y.
Overall: feels like buying a ZTE/Xiaomi/Oppo phone as opposed to a Pixel/iPhone.
I'm sure it'll sell well given the price but even at $50k if expect better software.
The dealership staff didn't seem to know a whole lot about the vehicle like the battery tech, charging options etc
While you're entitled to your opinion, I think the "AliExpress Model Y" comments is completely unfair. It's not even remotely trying to be a model Y and its not even in the same price segment. They're both electric SUVs and that's where the similarities end. As you've said later, you're comparing an iPhone with a Oppo A54... well it's obvious you'd want the iPhone by the Oppo is a very good phone for the price. Better than buying the Samsung equivalent, that has a good screen, a known name and much worse operating grunt.
The software is getting over-the-air update, including adding Android Auto and Apple carplay, probably on delivery. Can you get those on your model Y? No... didn't think so. And given how awful entry level infotainment screens are from a LOT of manufacturers, I'm surprised you think its THAT bad.
Tesla owners complain they feel every bump because of the firm ride, BYD have opted for something that doesn't feel as sporty but is very comfy... it's a family SUV.
The pedestrian alert sound has two settings, one that makes a starship whine and the other that does make a kind of voilin sound. It is swappable, as is the turn signal noise. There has also been feedback to BYD that the pedestrian alert sound is too loud in car... this is potentially fixable via OTA.
Yeah, I would prefer a model Y... but that is $20k more!
droidxt: Haha, I love AliExpress just probably wouldn't buy a 50k car off it.
The Atto 3 will get you from A to B, not too much fun in the process.
For a majority of the population, that's what a car is for

Still worth a drive and forming your own opinion. I've read probably 20+ mini driver reviews on facebook and this is by far the most harsh one I've read

Every video review I have seen on YT, Australia, UK, Singapore, NZ and even China have been all positive. And the dealer told me Maps coming in October once BYD and Google complete their commercial negotiations. If that is the case having Google Maps rather than the manufacturer maps must be a good thing, even if only there will be guaranteed updates.
I have never driven a MY but the 24 hours I had with the M3 convinced me it Tesla style cars weren't the cars for me. Again each to his own and YMMV as they say. OTOH a Model S - that is a different story :-)
Our first batch of cars has been delivered to the dealership, mix of white and grey. Would expect deliveries to retail customers starting early next week, with about 6-10 per day hitting the roads.

No, I work for the dealer :)
I am considering one for my wife, but she is hesitant about going full EV, even though it will only be a 2nd car
