TLD: I haven't found a solid local price for the Mini 803, but it looks to be around $100 and good kit.  There's a whole section of 'car cameras' on TradeMe, but if I get one I'd a) want one with a GPS derived speed indication via a BIG LCD, and b) feel I ought to source it from Amazon after clicking through from GZ because I feel bad that I forgot to do that with the two NiMH chargers I just bought from Amazon.  Sorry freitasm embarassed

I ordered/bought mine from china (?Aliexpress), seamless took about 2- 3 weeks to arrive.
If you are interested I'll dig out the receipt.

I actually found one later on TradeMe for $169.  It looks like a nice bit of kit with some useful extra features. I'd have liked a GPS derived accurate speed indication, but AFAICT, this camera does not have that.  Do you know different?

I've got the 803 so different model.

Text on the screen is too small to read in normal positioning if you want to look at while driving.
The feature set looks very similar, though I am just using it as car can for video so never used lane warning etc
I've got my camera in front of rear view mirror so you can't see it from normal driving position.

The GPS data recorded in video is then visible when played on my pc using either of the two programs mentioned in the Techmoan.com website.
Plays the video with snail trail on Google maps and speed etc in different Windows etc.

All in all works fine if you are after recording yours and other drivers bad driving but not if you want to read your speed in big numbers. (?use an app on you phone).
That would require bigger more expensive devices most likely.

A.

Might look into uploading some video but resolution on YouTube to less than the camera.

Wow.  Some colour blind drivers up your way then?  I made that getting on four seconds after your light turned green, so at least five seconds after his turned red.  What I don't understand is that the camera was recording sound, but not a single expletive.  You are a saint sir.

What do you do about the power lead?  Does it hang directly down, or have you managed to hide it under the trim around the outside of the windscreen?   I looked at mounting my small UHFN antenna on the roof of my Pajero a while back, but was nervous about the cable run, so I ended up with an edge of  the bonnet mount.  That was an expensive toy.  I went crazy and got a high end handheld (GME 6500S) and use it about twice a year!  ...but that's another thread.

Son to Dad: Dad, what does a red light mean?

Dad: It means pedal to the metal, son.

Son: What does a green light mean?

Dad: It means extreme caution, look out for your uncle who might be charging across at 100 miles an hour.

I see that about once a day in Auckland. Some people are in too much of a hurry.

At the moment it just hangs down and plugs into cigarette lighter so not too pretty.

I've got a USB multiboard which I'm going to get wired into the ignition system so it's not powered all the time.
Managed to find a 3m USB cable and the auto electrician I spoke to says he will put the wires behind paneling.

A.

Calm during event because on holiday and listening to cricket at the time.

Also as my car under powered, I'm slower getting off from the lights.
(Ha when did you last see someone say their car was safe because it was underpowered... Usually it's people saying I must have huge engine to drive out of danger)

laughing I was thinking of a similar joke when I saw the light jump video.

From THIS PAGE

Geordie is in Dublin on Business and takes a Taxi from the Airport to his Hotel in the City Centre.

As they come out of the Airport, the Taxi driver shoots through a red light. "Driver, you could have killed us, you jumped that red light!" shouts Geordie."Ah te be sure, my brother and me, we do that all the time" says the cabbie.

A mile down the road and the Taxi driver shoots over another red light.

"Driver, that was another red light!" Screams Geordie."Ah to be sure its nothing at all my brother and me, we do it all the time."

They get to the next traffic light. Its green, the Taxi driver stops!

" Driver, its a green light ! Why the hell have you stopped ?" says Geordie.

"Ah to be sure, " Says the Taxi Driver, " my Brother, he might be coming the other way ........"

So, should I have followed the car for license plate details and forwarded the clip to police ?

Having got footage of bad driving, should we forward them to police ?

Are the cameras just for recording bad driving porn or should we try to improve others driving by helping "punish" them.

A.

Wow, so glad I was at work rather than on the road.
That is normally a very busy intersection, so you were lucky

There is this: https://forms.police.govt.nz/forms/online-community-roadwatch-report/9

They should have a space to link to a video as evidence
