Wish I'd seen this deal on Friday. My partner and I have been investigating the fitness bands/watches lately so this looks like it would have been good for a similar sort of price to the lower end ones.

Managed to pick one up this morning. Won a Trademe auction from a guy locally. Price was not quite the $130 from TSW. But also not nearly the price of a new one

It's easy when you get one for $130 but I would say yes. I compare it to the Smartwatch 3 I also own and paid $300 for. I believe it is better than the SW3 in most aspects but not all. So on that basis $250-300 is reasonable but the RRP of $480 is waaay too much. If fact almost Apple-like.
Friday the thirteenth is only ten days away. What are the chances they will do something similar again?

Edit: Android Wear is still a work in progress and I believe any Wear device's utility will improve over the next 12 months.

I think $250 is a good buy if $250 is an insignificant amount of money to you.

Watch is great but I would not have paid more than $130 for it, I mean its faultless for what it does (except google voice recognition does need to be about twice as good at Kiwi language) but it is lacking some features that would be really useful (GPS for phone-less activity tracking, speaker for voice calls)

Lots of fun to show your friends, and pretty great if you get lots of calls you don't want to take/texts you're not ready to reply to, and helps you stop checking your phone as much.

But only worth an insignificant amount of money until you don't need to pull your phone out to reply with a message more than one sentence long, or take a voice call.

I'm sure that the device will get there though as google voice recognition gets better and the wear software improves.

really depends what you want to use it for, I'm using it for home automation and get great use out of it.

texting is pretty good with it, I'm using a app called "Coffee" which has a bunch of canned messages, can also send a message via voice which you can save as a canned response for a person later.

Hmmm...personally, I've had no issues with the voice recog...with no appreciable background noise, I've had 100% success rate. WITH background noise, there have been a few hiccups, but not many. I'd say it's more than good enough right now.

Id have to say that I have found the voice recognition excellent as well. Now to work out what more uses I can use it for.!!

voice reco is good for me, but I have had several issues.

Liam = loan, william
Toggle = total

There's been a few more but those are all I can recall.

I had to setup tasker to use a regex and work with the incorrect voice recognition.

I'm sure it will get smarter, perhaps learn what things you say, my son's name is Liam so I tend to say that a lot, but very seldom say "loan" or "william", and I cant recall the last time I said "Turn off loans tv" :)

Again, I reiterate, I've had few problems. And yes that includes the scenarios you mentioned. YMMV though I guess, but don't go making blanket statements when they aren't necessarily accurate.
