TeaLeaf: i reckon they should make tvs in this super uwhd ratio of these movies then and make it main stream. its annoying losing screen real estate. i do get why i shouldnt zoom it, its just annoying.

but regular tv isnt broadcast in this format its broadcast in 16:9 which is what most tv's are

and they already do the type of TV you are talking about
http://www.lg.com/uk/ultrawide/UM95.m

you will then have black bars on the side of the tv as opposed to the top and bottom, what do you watch more of? tv programs or Movies?

They do but you'll be hard pushed to find any in NZ..  Philips and I think Panasonic  made some a couple of years ago.

I just wish that the FTA channels in NZ when they show a HD movies in "ZoomoVision" rather leaving it in the original aspect ratio. It reminds me of the bad old "Pan N Scan days of 4x3 TVs.

then you would have black bars on the side of the screen for the majority of your stuff.  good thing about imax movies is they are 16:9.  terrible thing is if a movie is filmed part in imax and part not, eg the dark knight, it jumps from 16:9 to 2.25:1 between scenes, so annoying.

Has anyone splashed out on an oled through the sales? Perhaps a long shot I know. Just curious as to what kind of deals people might've got.

joker97: Is oled better than plasma?

That's open for debate. With plasma on the way out, oled is the next best thing.

I think oled is better. But the comparison is pretty much irrelevant.

Not if you watch it on an imax screen like I did ;-)

'Loosing Screen Realestate' is quite the OCD concern. No one complains about the wide aspect ratio at the movies, when watching them as intended...

But agree, back on topic here.

Oled is still expensive. Was a bit cheaper but not worth the premium.

OK ... keeping my old plasma for such time OLED is cheaper ... but when such time comes a new thing will probably be better

They make it really hard to buy in shops when the remote isn't available to look at and they really can't tell you anything about the tv.

I would consider replacing my tv if there is one that has a single button on the remote to switch game mode on and off. Because I keep forgetting and then playing games and sucking and then realizing it's looking far too good and I have game mode off so it's laggy. Then it's 8 or 9 button presses to navigate menus to toggle it and then things are good till I want to watch some youtube and have to turn it off

But no remote on display. Sales people too busy. CBF waiting. Although the 65" lg is tempting me I'm not going to pull the trigger on that without more info. And I can find that online. And I can buy it there too.
