Unusually, DSE is having an online sale...  For those parents out there whose kids' toys chew up the batteries, this can be a useful time to stock up:

40 AA alkaline batteries for $9.98 (25c each)

30 AAA for $6.36 (21c each)

No free shipping this time but can do click and collect.

yeah good luck with their shocking web site here in NZ

Just tried to buy some AA ones earlier , click and pick up in store

failed at checkout Dick Smith  doesn't like my Air Points Debit Card for some reason .
Called their 0800 number and then spoke to some nice Phillipino lady who suggested an alternative browser and how sorry she was that i couldn't purchase the product i wanted.

Have filled out the online response form , not expected much from that

Will see if the will match instore like when i purchased  some 1.5 m HDMI cables for $2.99 NZ each the last time this happened to me

Yeah, I agree the site can be a bit hit-and-miss, but I did manage to purchase a pack of AAAs with in-store pickup (on a Visa credit card), so may be worth trying with a different card...
