Seems to have been the night for the quicker bowlers.

The fact he can hit you a quick 20 -30 of 10 - 15 balls at the end of an innings probably got him an extra half-million or so.  Home ground helps with 6 hitting too

Yeah totally.

But I think what did it for him, was when he was asked, he said his biggest desire is to become #1 all rounder and to test himself in the sub continent.

That confidence is damn attractive. And as a spritely quick who delivers a ball well out of the batsmans line of sight, having both swing movements, both cutters, a great yorker and can bounce head high off a good length which is his wicket ball imo due to the surprise of a chest high ball off a good length, there is no reason he wont perform in India. Hes earnt it. Within 5 tests he sits world #10 all rounder, that is incredibly quick, he will over take our Kiwi turned Pom, Stokes, quickly imo. He will perform amazingly in the WTC at lords. He is the biggest thing in cricket to watch now. Still young enough to quickly become #1 and hold it, providing he puts out with the bat. 13 with ball and 52 with bat, will drop to something like 18 with ball and 40 with bat in time. But imo he will become of the best bowling all rounders of all time. Just my 2c on Kyle.

Bloody well stoked at the selectors, pretty much the exact team I posted on here, they have selected form players and dropped some of the old guard, who will no doubt still make the WC team. But I think its an embarrassment not to select Munro. All Stars player in the BBL. Feels like another Shane Bond rubbish snubbing. Still Finn Allen, Guppy, Conway, Williamson, Seifert, Jamieson is a damn good starting 6 for fast run rate. Had Munro been opening I think we could have played to 7 as genuine batsman. Oh well. Will see who they play during the 5 games.

But look out for Phillipe from Aus, he is insanely talented and like Finn Allen, insanely quick with his hands and the ability to decide which t20 style shot based on line and length so quickly, rivals Kane Williamsons ability in tests to play the ball so darn late. Exciting talent on both squads.

Re Mccullums Zen team selection vs Form players. I think in the T20 and maybe even the ODIs now, need a combo of both. Its clear Conway, Phillips, Allen, Seifert, Lockie, Munro have been the stand outs over the southern hemisphere game, maybe even Milne. But clearly Selector has gone with backing a few of the old guard still. I think its idiotic not to play Munro, but that is NZ cricket for ya.

Still, heck of a squad NZ have for this series. I say bat to 7 and use real bowlers ie Ish Sodhi, Lockie if he was fit.

These players imo will filter through to our test team.

Ironic Finn Allen leaves due to NZs openers Guptil and Munro blocking his path in Auckland, he leaves for Welli, Munro goes to Perth, Guppy gets a hammy, so that gives Glenn Phillips a lot of responsibilty and imo he did a damn good job given, Auckls players, just like in Rugby, playing for every other team haha.

He is in the Squad, whether they play him or not will change through the series.

I just think given t20s are such a gamble, if you cant score runs and fast, you may as well give up, so not playing our best batsman at this format is pretty much forfeiting by selection. What can ya do. Aus wont make such a mistake and drop their player most in form. NZ over think the team, when really they are obvious and simple selections It frustrates me but Im happy at least they are acknowledging immerging talent.

ESPN's players to watch is a good one. I think the batsman are interesting, but for me, Ish Sodhi vs Zampa is the biggest match up. Similar stats, Sodhi just slightly ahead. The 2 best wrist spinners in Aus/NZ, a lot of potential there. I like that Sodhi has commited to the batting game as well, makes him an easy choice.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/australia-in-new-zealand-2020-21-1233965/new-zealand-vs-australia-1st-t20i-1233971/live-cricket-score

This comment is why NZ squad selection and more so on the day team selection is a total fail. Need to play to win, and to do that need to play your best players with the risk of losing. Fear, that is the key word. NZ need to play the 7 best batsman and 4 best bowlers 2 of which need to be outright wicket takers. We need to shed this fear of Aus, with no risk there is no reward.

""Somehow, I feel that NZ are lesser confident when they are up against their trans tasman rival.... Aussies get up and running quite early and maintains the lead....!!!!":

The reason why Munro is not playing is that he recently just got back from Aus and is currently in quarantine.

I dont hate this selection but there are a few players in here that are stale and old guard and a prime example of why NZ struggle vs Aus, even though NZ's form is far better.

"New Zealand (probable) 1 Martin Guptill, 2 Tim Seifert, 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Devon Conway, 5 Glenn Phillips, 6 Jimmy Neesham, 7 Mitchell Santner, 8 Kyle Jamieson, 9 Tim Southee, 10 Ish Sodhi, 11 Trent Boult"

I think Neeshams lack of form is a glaring hole, and the other for me is Trent Boult, possibly Santner, although he is a much better t20 player than ODI or Test. But there is room there for Finn Allen, and imo Colin Munro. Bowl WIlliamson, he is a very good finger spinner. Ideally we would have the red hot white ball bowler Lockie filling in at 11 over Boult. It just feels a bit weak after number 5. IMO we should bat to 7. RUns are the most important thing in t20, you can be the most skilful bowler in the world but if a batsman is on, your going to go for 15 rpo and very few players can stop someone like Phillipe from doing that. uggggh. Id give this a 7/10 for a probably selection.

Dochart: The reason why Munro is not playing is that he recently just got back from Aus and is currently in quarantine.

He came back same flight as the Aus team, the day after the BBL game. Only reason he could still be in quarantine is some administration total balls up, but he should be in the team.

Classic commentary from ESPN

6.20pm Aravinth : "What happened to Colin Munro and why is he not here? "

How do you know he came back on the same flight as the Australian players. Few days ago Munro posted an Instagram story before he caught his flight back to NZ and then he posted again when he was in quarantine.

This what he posted 5 days ago on Instagram:

So be it, wasnt claiming I know everything in the world haha. was just going off what was stated the day before the BBL final.

It certainly leaves us 1 short. But he will be in the next game Im sure. Would be awesome to fill those 2 spots with another white hot batsmen in Allen and Munro. Auckland to front the top 3.

Aus batting to #8, NZ to #6. Playing Finn Allen would have been worth the risk. Aus like I was 100% sure they would, are playing their best young gun, Phillipe. NZ just to scared to risk to win. Its almost a semi test mentality imo.
