TeaLeaf:

Williamson out, just when his team needs him to fight through injury to be honest.

Phillips is a must, not Mitchell. Doull saying Mitchell will give you a 3rd seamer option.... I thought its Wags, KJ and Southee, what do we need part time seam for? I love mitchell but hes not one of the most important tests in NZs history player. Need Phillips at 3 to push the run rate up.

If NZ lose the toss, dang.

But 3 key Indian players out. Dropping like flies.

As DC mentioned above.

For me Taylor is the key now, he needs to fight form for form. Nichols the same. This is a gorgeous batting surface and Ind have lost their key swing bowler. I think it will swing even by mid tomorrow.

Get on with it, put some deeper sprigs on. haha.

Kane just needs to take the time correcly.

I'd play the young kid before Ross

Pitch inspection done, toss to take place at 11:30 am

Mumbai time is currently 10-48am as at NZDST 6-18pm

So toss at 7pm here, I assume kick off minutes after that maybe 7-20?

With Kane out of the match Taylor and Nicholls need to perform. If Philips does well in this test match I hope he starts in the upcoming games back in NZ.

When Conway comes back it will be a solid batting line up. If Philips does well this should be test batting line up from 1-5 Latham, Young, Williamson, Conway and Phillips.

Precisely. Got to give the young guys a go including Young who isnt Young but new. Phillips and Ravindra are solid choices even if the latter has much less first class performane, he has been ear marked as potentially great batting talent. I hope he focuses on making sure hes a run scorer before he starts to work on improving his bowling. Much like Phillips, quit similar situation, except we know what phillips can do.

And Taylor/Nicholls need to turn it around out of NZ. Kohli is struggling, 2 year without a century, 51 innings.

IMO india are playing down there losses in Rihane, Ishant and Jadeja. I think all 3 are HUGE losses even if they have replacements.

Can NZ clutch this, its up for grans, but without Kane? I believe in TOM ! He is more Mccullum like and will put the foot down if given the chance.

We loss the toss yet again. We bowling first up. Might be a blessing in disguise. I’ve looked at the previous records and some games the team that has bat second has won games. Blackcaps need to get India out cheaply then post a big batting score.

Yikes, Mitchell batting at 3 and no Wagner. They decided to keep Sommerville instead. Probably to keep the long batting order

Hard to know. India feels batting first is the better bet, must be reasons for that. Bat stable, rack up too days, thats probably their aim. Removes the loss, play for win or draw.

Yeah. Needed Philips instead of Blundell, bit more batting. So we are targeting the bat and relying on Southee and KJ with bowling support to stretch them out

OTOH its probably a better option to target batting or bowling and not have an average side of both.

NZ bowling well, I did expect more from the humidity and surface though....... could be a long time in the field if we dont get a break through soon. blue skys wasnt expected today, so thats prob burnt off the swing i was hoping for. awesome place, great stadium.

Yea, I was expecting it to be cloudy so Southee and Jamieson can utilise swing. I didn’t expect it to be sunny so quick.

same, they were talking grey skys for the day, now its just sunshine. this ball is doing nothing. southee trying the best he can with no movement. maybe had they started earlier.

it does make me wonder why we start cricket so late in nz, especially in the north island when 10am the light is as good as its going to get all day. sure in south island the angle is a bit lower but even there I think 1030am should be the norm. I get the angles diff in India. just my random thoughts on how we dont make the use of light in NZ.

dissapointed in the selection, NZs best ever left hand seamer sitting in the dressing shed, absurdity. I get mitchell can bowl a bit. But again, just like test 1, we needed wicket takers. Not batsmen who can bowl a bit or spinners who are below avg on both. Drop somerville for the love of cricket. NZ already into defense mode. an ultra defensive selection with a waste of two openings. 3 spinners imo is overkill on this pitch, especially when none of them are wicket takers. very upsetting. Mitchell is great for white ball, but tests hes not that good, not in Ind.

Ind put on 500 and NZ will crumble with a weaker batsman replacement in Mitchell and keeping Somerville instead of our best bowler in these conditions. Absurd. I bet this was Williamsons choice. I hope he just leaves cricket for 2 months while recovering and he takes larsen with him and Mcullum becomes selector and coach and Wagner captain.

Agree, we could have had Phillips and Wagner in the team for Williamson and Sommerville. Our seam bowlers are better than our spinners. Why don’t we go with our strengths. I would have taken just Ravindra and Patel as our spinners even if the off chance we might need a 3rd but that would have been fine if we selected both Phillips and Wagner in the team.

I’m not a fan of the whole not getting rid of our old guards or out of form batsman. Taylor and Nicholls are on the chopping block. If Williamson is injured for the home summer I hope Phillips gets a chance at playing. He seems like someone who could do well home and away compared to Nicholls.

Patel wicket.

Loose like spin is the deal right now, particularly when it could have been better.
