I don't think there are enough woman in the NZ T20 team either. They seem under represented across the whole tournament actually.

Before waffling on here, I should mention that in my "statistics" I'm only counting players from teams who have a realistic chance of winning the World T20 tournament, and by that I mean any player from any team except the eight teams who participated in the earlier group stage. So...

Sure, Guptill is our best batsman, but he's only got 45 runs to show from two innings - just over half of top scorer Joe Root (86). He's 19th on the scorers' list, and only 5th in our pool. Guppy only has 8 more runs than Anderson (37) and there are three more Black Caps in the 30s - Elliott (36), Williamson (32) and Munro (30). And Ronchi (27) is not far behind them. It seems we're spreading our runs throughout the team.

As for our bowlers, Santner is easily the pick of the crop - he's got the best stats of the tournament with six wickets, and Sodhi is ranked third with four wickets and a good economy rate. Kyle Abbott from South Africa between them with five wickets, but his economy rate almost double that of Santner's.

I think we're going to need more runs from our top order. At the moment our bowlers are winning our games by defending low totals. But in the semifinal we're going to be up against a team who is capable of scoring a lot more - so far every team in Group 1 has scored more than us (even Afghanistan) and South Africa and England have scored a lot more than us. Our bowlers will probably not be as effective against their big hitters so we're going to need a lot more runs on the board. Guptill will be expected to get a lot of those but Munro, Anderson, Williamson and Taylor have to chip in.

yep i agree with that andrew. although santners rate is a misleading given he went for 7.5 the first innings and if loses the plot like he did pre t20 tournament could easily cost us 15rpo with bowling half trackers which anyone who has kept a close eye on him knows he prone to do. but im happy to keep him for now, keeps that i agree with you but also i told you so ticket in my back pocket ;-p

i also agree the top order needs to get some runs. thats why i was looking at another batsman to replace santner, had nothing to do with his bowling, its simply we are quite shallow at the moment. drop taylor for Ryder ;-p.

but we do need another mccullum. munro will come good and has done ok. williamson is taking too long to get going. taylor is trying to feed the strike, he should be given free reign to go nuts, he actually has a lot of power behind his technique. anderson imo is a bit of a weak link except he bowled well. hes the one we are expecting to come in and hit 50 off 20.

id like to see if can extract some swing in the humid conditions, but not at the expense of 2 bowlers who cant bat at the end of the tail so my pick would be southee. perhaps to replace milne, even though milne is one our big hitters with good technique.

the good news is we dont have to sweat about it with a few games we can experiment with now we are king of the castle.

interestingly if we win all of our games, we should move from #2 in the world to #1? That will be a first for NZ in any form of the game?

The one player nobody can disagree with form issues is Ronchi, some may ask how even got picked. Do we have any NZ keeper who can play T20 style bat? Are we allowed to bring is player post tourn starting? Even Watling would be a good choice imo, takes the pressure off Taylor by doing what hes currently asigned.

I'm not sure if you haven't watched any of the games or are just being disingenuous.

We have played 2 games on turning/abrasive pitches where bowlers had complete control of the game, yet our NRR is well above that of any other team.

To compare the averages of our batsmen vs those who have played on batting paradises is entirely unfair. Our batsmen have outperformed our opposition who were/are considered favourites of the tournament.

Put NZ/Aus/India on a flat wicket you will see scores of 200.

I agree the wins we've had have been immense, both against teams who would have been widely tipped to beat us before the tournament started. The issue for me is how many runs we've scored along the way - an average of only 134 runs per game. Even Afghanistan has done better than that, and only India has done worse. We do have easily the best net run rate, but again due to our restrictive bowling, not the runs we've scored. The number of runs scored against us per game is easily the lowest.

I'd keep Santner in the side for his bowling alone, and any runs he gets are a bonus. If we have a better batsman we should drop Taylor first - he's only scored two runs more than Santner over the two games so far, and that's what he's supposed to be there for. Ryder's not the answer - he's had enough chances. I'd try talking Brendan McCullum out of retirement first...

Don't forget we batted against two top sides, India is a specialist spin attack and on their track, so not surprised that we got restricted runs wise. But, we restricted MORE.

Id go as far to say against Oz was great, but against what I gather was the favourite, on their track, thats pretty immense. We beat India against their own spin game. beating Oz showed it wasn't a one off. Pretty impressed.

I think Aus are push it to make the Semis to be honest. Pak wont be easy, then Ind at home who have to win also to make it......

Santner proving me wrong. Good on him. Ill give anyone credit where its due, he just didnt look much chop in NZ but streaks ahead in this T20. I like the idea of keeping Sodhi even if he cant bat, hes our only genuine spinner and a leggy at that.

Finally our middle order did some work.

the shot I enjoy the most from Marty is his straight drives, or lofted straight drives, although sometimes i just love seeing one along the carpet to see how hard he hits the damn ball. he has that golf like swing and holds the position, it is truely a thing of beauty and his biggest assett.

i hope he lays it on thick now we are through to the semis and goes from 2nd to 1st in scoring, which has probably changed in last couple of days.

nice to see Gayle going well when its counts too.

here i was thinking it was our group that was by far the most unfair. SA could struggle. was a shame to see Aus win so narrowly last night. they going to struggle with Ind having to win against them to make it as well, but if they do they deserve the spot.
