I 100% agree with you, and I guess that's my point.  These guys are clearly struggling on multiple fronts to remain relevant and exciting in the modern age.

Going eco would really mean grouping races more sensibly together and finding ways to transport less gear more economically, rather than impacting race day content so much.

I read something once I really wished I'd kept, but it may have been pre internets days.  It made reference to the need to allow mistakes to occur, and for their consequences to be meaningful.

Gear changes, tyre changes, tyre choices, refuelling, manual braking and gearshifts etc all provided opportunities for things to go wrong.  If you take that away, or design tracks where a fluffed braking approach doesn't hammer you etc then you really start to erode the spectacle.  As AI and processing power develops, the human element runs a real risk of being obsolete in this sport and that's something they need to plan around.

When I first went to grand prix events, the sound was spine tingling and bowel shaking.  It literally scared the s out of you and you needed earplugs or your ears would bleed.  
They have a job to recapture that essence.

That all sounds doom and gloom, but I hope it's addressed at some stage.
