I don't think it was ever a question of the Mercs duking it out or not. It was all about insulating Hamilton from Vettel's attack.

According to a Hamilton interview (so you can take it with a grain of salt), he didn't ask for the re-order, and he didn't want it. Apparently over the radio he said, "Just ask him (Bottas) to speed up a bit"

I can actually live with the re-order in that scenario - it's almost the same as the Force Indias swapping position to each have a go at attacking Magnussen - just in a defensive sense rather than offense. I just would have preferred for them to revert to their original positions before the end of the race once the threat from Ferrari was gone. (But I grasp why they didn't)

It's no different from:

Kimi, Sebastian is faster than you.

Or,

Fernando is faster than you.

Sometimes people call you out, sometimes nobody knows where to look.

RBR double diffuser is a good example. Now banned. But it was legal, or to be more accurate it was not illegal as deploying a double diffuser wasn't in the rules

As for Ferrari, its clear that they had a trick, trick now closed. Must have broken a rule but apparently not. Maybe there was an "error" in the output given...

Rest of the season, cool. And that includes the next GP??? Even more cool..... :-)

Im unsure of the F1 viewership, but to blame the times of the Euro races is just dumb. We can record, and do. I used to do the 12 midnight to 2am, I just record now.

F1PBay looks more like an option....

Me personally I like Sky. F1, MotoGP, Grand Slam tennis and other odd sport niceties. Other channels too. Its a small but good range.

I recall when I used to stop paying my bill as they moved Nascar from SS1 to SS2 (an extra sub). I waited till the guy popped up to take my box away, ranted, then gave him a cheque.

Unlike the Sky hate brigade, I'm fine with it. But if I see content being slowly moved away.....well enough said. Add value and we stay, such as a full Sky app, but remove content, that is a no-no.

I wonder if this means that F1TV will become available in NZ from next season (depending on who gets the rights). Not that the product is great as it stands right now, but hopefully during the off-season they can tidy it up and polish it off.

Last season me and friends stayed up to watch every 12-2am race live, got up early for the 5/6am starts and recorded the 3am to watch from 6am (still finished in time for work).

Earlier this year (pre-F1 start) the guy-with-the-sky canned the service as he got a gf so wasn't at home as much. I used skygo for the fly away rounds, but as soon as the 1am race starts hit I haven't watched a single race live, so I suspect Sky are right when they say viewership has dropped. The other effect is that now that we don't get together to watch the 12am races the others have lost interest in catching up for the more reasonable time races (eg japanese gp this weekend - we would always do a sushi dinner during the race).

Hopefully this allows F1TV to stream live races in NZ and have replays available quickly (sky never had replays in previous seasons so if you missed recording a race you had no way to watch it - although that seems to have changed slightly for this season).

I am 100 fine if Sky NZ lost the rights to Spark or NF or Amazon. I accept competition. I can choose to retain or forego Sky, and choose to pay another sub.

But I dont accept gradually losing content if Sky NZ decided to cut costs in that manner. I also love Sky UK's coverage, much the same as Sky NZ coverage of rugby. The game is obviously important but the extras are awesome. I can see Liberty Media monetising this too far. IIRC Sky UK was unsure of it will be covering all this season. They seem to will be, but the writing is on the wall. Pay to watch the race with sub standard commentary and no extras.

Wow, hadn’t seen the sky news until just now.
Hope this opens up the streaming option in NZ now, although presumably the rights are there for another provider to pick it up and lock it to them next year.

As much as I don’t like sky, they did nothing wrong, and simply bid for some sports coverage rights and won them here in New Zealand. As long as rights to events are still sold in regional manner, and not considered as global/streamable from the one source, you will still be locked to one local provider to view.
