Agree. SJ wanted out, now he's not wanted. Now NZRL say's his heart was always been with the Warriors since he left. Rubbish. Warriors could do with a star player even if he's second hand goods

and is now very average with sparkles of brilliance, but they are better to invest in the future. Invest in today's players. Some nice ones have arrived for us this term

Poor decision

Herbert going to be thinking about that one for years. Roosters were all offside too.

Anyone see the news with Reece Walsh? Obviously he made a big mistake and he'll learn from it. I feel like it's a mistake that the people around him should've helped him to avoid, I see he was with Toby Rudolf earlier in the night. At the very least tell him not to carry that stuff on him 🙄 (preferably not have it at all). As always a lot of people going hard at him on social media. To his credit he owned up to it publicly, would've been real tough to do that.

Think I'm going to get up at 6am and watch the Super League final. Excited to see how Maloney goes.

I agree if he is known to be a party guy, which most teens are, he should have been more wrapped up in wisdom support post end of of season. In saying that, the dumbest thing about it was he was eventually searched at the station after refusing to leave, which, whether he was involved in the incident or not, was simply stupid given what he was carrying. Yet again, a famous person gets a love tap from the law while normal citizens would have had the book thrown at them.

So our feeder club and current hosts Redcliffe Dolphins (not sure what the actual Club name will be) is now the 17th team in the comp. Given the Warriors and Redcliffe just signed the 3yr contract, will be interesting to see how that plays out and if the Dolphins will make a move on some of our players. But they will be the most wealthy club in the comp and its known they will only be restricted by the salary cap. Marquee players like Munster and Ponga are names thrown about, but we wont know much until midway through next year Id have thought, just before the player movement cessation comes into play during the 2022 season. Post that I think they will confirm a likely 30 man squad.

I honestly believe the Warriors are one game away from becoming top 4 quality.

It would be nice to have Curren, DWZ, Lodge all playing, but there is so much depth that is just getting added to.

Next year we get Dylan Walker, a specialist 14 who can essentially play any position in the back line, that is not a position many master and he is probably the best in the world at it. The only issue is, where is he going to fit.

We have Niuokore coming, an amazing centre come back rower.

We also have Barnett, a solid player.

Too add to that, we signed Luke Metcalf who was sitting behind the Sharks #1 FB, but he is way way better than that, a real tackle busting, stepping, 100m pace machine, expect a lot of tries from 60m out like the old Warriors if hes forced to play on the edge/wing. Keep in mind player running with ball should be 5-10% slower than free arm swing.
Luke Metcalf - Cronulla Sharks - YouTube

Currently we are trialing Daejarn Asi, 3 back in the Cowboys, an electric player as evidenced by the 2 try assists and his own try scored vs Raiders. People calling for him to replace CHT who has already excelled this year at FB and 5/8th. Everyone is hoping he gets a piece of paper that is not low balled as most see CHT as our future #7 when SJ chooses to retire. He has modelled himself off Cooper Cronk and he is easily the Warriors best defender, even Walsh when asked who hed least like to face his answer was Chanel. He folds players 3 times his size and he saves a LOT of tries with his defense. Hes also another candidate for 14 as hes played 5 positions for the club. Too add to all this, we have some how managed to scout Ronald Volkman, one of the most exciting halves in juniors. He isnt fast like SJ or Asi or Metcalf, but he is a very strong runner and has a lot of skill with the ball. The roosters will release him early provided we take Darcy Lussick, a hooker, Wade Egan has stepped his game up (finally) this year, and you have Otukolo a NZ Warriors junior who is now playing games out of position at 18yo. He scored 4 tries in a match not so long ago. Hopefully we can sign Arthers who has been sensational for us this year in centre running excellent lines for tries.

So we have 3 players whose idol is Shaun Johnson. Jesse Arthers, Luke Metcalf and Asi (probably Volkman too possibly). A lot of these guys are kiwis or kiwaussies, who have been through the incredibly harder Aussie age group representation and Coaching, but WANT to play for the Warriors and learn what they can from their Idol SJ.

And then of course we have Walsh, have native Aus and half Maori, who has squashed all rumours he will sign with Dolphins. Hes coming to NZ later this year and will be with us minimum until end of 2023, in which he has player option for 2024, when I expect the Warriors to throw something like $800k at him. Metcalf is technically a half who also has been made to play FB. Neither have great FB defensive skills just yet but they work on them and both are dang fast and fleet footed.

All of that with players who have excelled like suspended Montoya, Pompey has been excellent. Who knows where they fit in, but its going to be a team of top 8 players in every position with equal quality players backing them up if needed. Next year our RG team will start again and some of the players we have at the moment will be able to develop.

What its all about is coverage, making sure whether injury or covid, the team has a top level NRL player in the spine and outside Backs.

Then you add the forwards, Curren is a beast line runner and edge man and dang good defender, Addin our captain is probably in the top 4 8's in the game, very mobile, has the ball skills of a half back but can bust tackles at will and again a harsh defender to be on the end of, Tohu Harris Mr Reliable, very mobile 80 min forward, will be back in the next 2 weeks I reckon, 3 at most. Jazz Tevaga has for the most part stopped all the rubbish penalties, he is now one of our most versatile players and he brings immense energy when he steps on the field to replace AFB or Lodge etc. Lodge will be leaving us. So that will be the last piece of the Puzzle, finding a big enforcer, but on who doesnt give away dumb penalties and errors so consistenly.

With the players we have this year, I struggle to see how we will miss the 8. When I look at next years roster, I think top 4 is par, it really is. We have never ever had a team this potent and complete across the field with plenty of quality players backing them up and players who can fit into multiple positions, insanely well done.

I see this as a legacy team with the amount of young guys prepared to move to NZ to play behind FG players, in RG. Once these backs start clicking and better players are released, the Warriors are going to be a scary team to try and defend against. Good times ahead.

Im hoping that they can grow during the season, but the east two games have been stickers. AsLodge said, they played sh1t last week , and tonight was terrible. We can look good, very very good, but tonight they had no clue. Defending 6 sets, most of it in the 20. Sharks used their skills, made good decisions, it wasnt rocket science

As the cliche goes, follow the process, the score will look after itself.

Im keen for the Warriors to build and grow, but the teams mindset and confidence is plummeting.

So looks like they have burned through another coach, and another well-known name to replace him. How many coaches is it now? How many big names have they recruited?

The Warriors have never (In recent times) managed to find the right combination of players, coaches, culture and management. Something is wrong there. It's a similar picture to the Blues, who have recently seemed to be able to put everything together for the first time in a very long time.

I wish Stacey Jones the best, but I can't help but feel we will be doing this all over again in a while.

Consistency is the key. Completing sets, everyone playing for 80+ minutes, no mid-game sulks or expecting one player to carry the team with a miracle score.  Until they can find someone whos vision everyone can get behind, this lacklustre irregular performing team will continue to struggle.

Had to laugh a the press release -

"It's tough for everyone involved but, in the best interests of the club, we felt we had to go in a different direction now."

Yeah, they want to go in the winning direction.

Warriors have always been hamstrung by "island flair" as they used to put it. The moments of magic produced by the razzle dazzle type plays that those from the pacific islands are famous for unfortunately come undone quickly against methodical and professional opposition. It works from time to time and makes for entertaining league when they pull it off, but its simply not a successful long term strategy. Last time they were pretty successful, they had Campion in the forwards, driving the hard yards and keeping in check the urge to push the miracle ball all the time.

Had to happen, my enthusiasm in the team was dependent on Brown leaving. Our worst coach in our history, running at 28% win rate last 4.5 seasons including 2 wooden spoons (hopefully we avoid our first this year).

But looking ahead, the roster next year is developing along very nicely.

We jus need a head coach who does exactly that in training, he pulls the issues apart and shows the guys better ways to handle the situations. So we need a coach or coaches, one with the higher level picture and one with recent experience in the NRL and the modern offense and required defense.

That is where we are going wrong, we have the 2nd worst right edge defense. We are using guys who would normally be in reserve grade, but that dosnt start up again until next year, which will help us a lot.

We are probably missing a big Prop and a quality Centre. But plenty of time left and from what I can see we have slots left for the 30 man squad. But outside that, we have collected some damn good players

So if we get Macquire, Green, Flannagan, those 3 have turned around clubs to win premierships . Also Woolf (a little unknown to the NRL is the risk so needs a solid assistant coach) and maybe John Morris as assistant coach, I am confident we could see a VERY fast turn around. This year we have produced plenty of points with mostly adlib footy, if we just stop the soft tries we easily make the top 6 next year.

I firmly believe we need a change in management, too many mistakes, they said if they do not perform, players or management, they will be let go. So I can see that happening and if we pick up one of those coaches mentioned, they could change the culture of the Warriors.

Stacy is just a place holder, good luck to him but we need about 9/11 wins, and we have the Sharks, Penrith and Roosters coming up. So outside a miracle change, missing both the starting props, really its about really changing he course of the club toward next year.

I dont like why we paid our Lodge. I also dont think the Owner or Ceo should be talking performance directly with players, thats the coaches job. Thats why imo we need an NRL experienced CEO.

But all is looking good, watch this space for big changes. To he owners word, if people dont perform they get axed. Hopefully more positive times coming up. They need to get back to being more like what SK was trying to do with the club, base the team on Completion rate, Fitness and Defense. And he had nowhere near as much flare as next years team. So if the new coach does that, Im very confident of a big turn around next season.

I guess making the 2011 grand final wasn’t success?

The island flair crap is nonsense. Around half the players in the NRL have pacific heritage. Well run teams have plenty of Polynesian players and are successful. Badly run teams aren’t.

That was a decent game by the Warriors. Not because of the win or the score, but for once in a long time they made consistently good metres off their carries, and restricted the opposition with their carries. Fast ball and intent. Great to see. Im hoping this is not a home game thing. If the next game doesnt also have this go forward intent and speed, Ill probably be out for the season.

Its there, keep doing it

Not surprising. Walsh gone at the end of the year (Broncos or Dolphins). Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (Raiders) to replace him.

+ Andrew Webster possibly the next coach.

Yeah, not surprised at Walsh wanting to leave. I think this was always going to happen and the Warriors were just a stepping stone to a bigger contract at a better club. I like CNK and how much he has developed at the Raiders. My concerns are how injury prone he is and how he will perform in the Warriors setup. New coach looks interesting. HAs experience being within the Warriors environment. Hopefully he has the man management skills to direct this rag bag team into something resembling a top 8 team. Never a dull moment as a Warriors supporter that's for sure.
