Ragnor:

Two french drivers would make sense but they have a long history (same age, from same part of france, have raced each other their entire lives) they are ex friends now as often happens with two drivers racing competitively winning > friendship, it would most likely end up like Nico Roberg and Lewis Hamilton..

Makes sense. Elite sportspeople are quite close. Between the ears, pressure starts to matter more. A Rosberg/Hamilton issue will cause incidents, distraction and lost points

Gasly is in interesting one.  Did not handle the pressure of Red Bull / Max Verstappen as a #1 team mate at all.

Then did really well when returning down to Alpha baby Red Bull team, probably as he saw the demotion as something he needed to prove wrong etc.

Don't really know why I but I see him as quite hot headed/whinging and not sure I'd want him as a driver.

Is the summer break over yet ... it's dragging like the 12 hours before Christmas morning.

Will be tuned in to FP1 at Spa to see how Liam Lawson goes in the Alpha Tauri.  Though he's having an average season I think the door's not entirely closed on grabbing an AT seat, depending on how the F1 silly season plays out.

From where I'm sitting it looks like Tsunoda has a attitude/application problem which I don't think is going down well with team management.  They already pulled him over to Italy to keep a closer eye on him.  He can be quick and he is Japanese which are in his favour but, if he's a lazy trainer and a bit of a hothead on the track, is that enough to keep him with the team in 2023.

No unfortunately not.  I am constatly consuming F1 infomration just to keep me from going crazy!  This break seems longer than most for some reason!

Tsunoda is funny.  He is hot headed and is not afraid to say what he thinks... I tihnk he has improved this season but he could be a liability!

I am really interested in the floor changes and who may be affected by them. Ferarri have admitted they will be but no one else has.. Either way, after a long summer break, everyone will be chomping at the bit to get going!

Yeah, I'm doing the same, even watched Ricciardo's latest video on YT the other day to see if there were any clues as to what he's thinking about the Piastri/McLaren situation.

The floor situation is interesting.  I'm not sure there will be any great change to the order at the front, despite what Mercedes are obviously hoping with the tightening of the rules around the planks.  I think that RB and Ferrari just have fundamentally better cars this season.  But we will see in a couple of weeks I guess.

Speaking of Ferrari, it always makes me smile when you hear their race engineer come on the radio, sounding for all the world like everyone's elderly granddad down the bowling club!  Given some of the daft race decisions they've made this season, I often wonder if he's not only communicating them but making them as well!

Liam Lawson getting a run in an Alpha Tauri this weekend in FP1. Wouldn't do him any harm if Tsunoda had a few rocky races rest of the season. I rate Lawson, not just cos he's a Kiwi, he is pretty good

There's a story about it on planetf1.com today, with one of the pundits in the accompanying video suggesting he thinks Lawson has the inside running on Tsunoda's seat if they decide to replace him.  The part I found most interesting is that Lawson will be in Gasly's car for this run.  If the two cars are running similar set-ups/programs during FP1, Lawson has a great opportunity to show what he could offer versus Tsunoda.

More rumours today that an Audi deal with Sauber/Alfa is imminent, possibly to be announced at Spa.  I'd be surprised but, as an Audi owner myself, quite pleased to see them come into F1.  With Audi, Porsche, and Andretti all sniffing around recently, it's time for that grid expansion.

Already ruled out by the FIA. Which is a shame.

Although, I'll add, if I had a dollar for every time Audi/Porsche were going to enter F1...

Wasn't the most recent buzz that Audi were going to buy McLaren? Case in point.

Was it ruled out by the FIA?  I thought it was more the existing teams not wanting to share their pot of gold with new players?  A 22 or 24 car grid would add something to the soap opera that is F1, and up and coming drivers would get more opportunity to break into the big time.

Yeah if we pooled all those dollars, we could probably fund our own race team!  I think the deal with Audi was that they were looking at McLaren, Alfa Romeo and Williams as teams they could buy into.  McLaren would have been my preference had I anything to say about it, which I obviously don't.  But I believe they didn't want to sell as much of the team as Audi wanted to buy.  The rumour is that Audi can buy up to 75% of Sauber, which appears to suit both parties better.

What surprises me most is the whole Audi/Porsche thing with both companies being part of VAG.  With it being such an expensive exercise to compete in F1, assuming they can find a way to get in, you'd think VAG would say one of you can have a go for now but not both.  And Audi's intention to use the previous Porsche design work to develop their own PU, while Porsche wants to jump on the Red Bull/Honda train.

I guess it's vital each marque keeps it's brand recognition high with the car-buying public, but even so.  I guess they both see long term benefit to their road car programs or they would be looking to get in.

From memory Audi and Porsche have the same parent company.

Not coming until 2026 from memory also, where the power unit setup becomes more simplified and they do away with that heat recovery component altogether.

Both parties would be pairing with existing teams so no real change to numbers on the grid.

Spa - PTSD of last years washout race.

Nah I'm not sad on this one.   Rip the band aid off an move on.

It wasn't working, and didn't work across two different styles of car either (one year before and one in new design after regulation changes).

He wasn't performing, car didn't behave like he'd like.
By all accounts it was a pretty rubbish car and Lando is probably masking how crap it is.

I suspect this period has really hurt DR, in multiple ways.
His reputation has taken a huge hit.  He hasn't performed to the Red Bull level since he left, and he's now jumped multiple teams.  Leaving Renualt was not a good career move, and I'd see him as a flight risk to employ now.
Also I think he's taken a mental hit, having been surprised with a car that was unpredicktable and unsettling to drive.
He spent a long while trying to learn a new driving style and all that work starts to impact on your self belief and is scary in that it might take away the natural edge you've had.

Leaving McLaren feels a sensible think for DR to do actually, and hopefully get back into a drive with a more traditional handling car, so he can get back to natural racing.

I'm both a McLaren and Danny Ricciardo fan, so was stoked when they joined up. I'm more sad that it didn't work out; agree it is probably best for everyone that he tries for a reset to get him back in the game.
