Kimi had outstanding pace today. Fastest lap and rapidly caught George by the finish. He rebuilt his confidence over the weekend. I'm hoping that the team can give him a quicker qualifying car because in race trim he looks outstanding. This is probably one of the hardest tracks to drive so this race would've done the world for his self belief.

Lewis secured his financial future by going to Maranello; but it's clear to see that he's lost a few tenths of outright pace. I think his move to Ferrari was a win all round for everybody.

That was one boring race, i think it was the first time that the first 6 cars finished the race in the same position they started from.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Yeah it is a bit of a puzzle. Suzuka is probably the biggest test of a driver's ability on the calendar but puts on a terrible show. I could get used to watching more races that aren't in the middle of the night. Hoping NZ becomes an oil and gas powerhouse and funds an F1 race in the future.

The tyres lasting forever massively influenced this race.
Allowed Max to get away with a lower downforce wing. Pretty incredible under braking.

Lando had no answer and overall McLaren left it too long to attack.
Oscar was for once able to match lando and should have had the chance to attack max.McLaren with a boring pit stop strategy gave their drivers little chance of spicing things up.

Overall quite boring.

Liam looks unrelated to the driver that subbed in for a few races over the last two seasons.
Can’t understand the car or manage the tyres.
Poor guy has had so little practise in either car though, with mechanical impacts and wild weather in Red Bull or this being his first outing in this car so far with racing balls. That’s tough but at least he knew this track in advance.

Bahrain up next and everyone should know this from testing.

Triple header period started, with another race the next two weekends - but yeah loss of NZ friendly timezones now.

thermonuclear:

Fair play to Red Bull and Verstappen, didn't think they would be able to out-race the McLarens but some alien driving from Max and there we have it. Only three weekends in but keeps things close in the WDC, it's going to be an epic championship if Verstappen can do that consistently.

when you have 2 better cars vs 1 good car, but you play papaya rules that's what happens.

yeah people don't realise that F1 does not care about past results, only current results. what Liam needs to do is not think about beating others, he needs to learn how to drive. maybe he had beginners luck when covering for DR, but whatever it is, RB has broken him not helped him. Toto put Kimi in a real F1 car and made him drive 10,000 kms while RB was busy infighting. while Hadjar is just very good.

MCL could have easily won with 2 v 1. eg get get one of them in to try to undercut Max, and as soon as RB responds by pitting Max get the other car to hammer time it and try the overcut. they have enough speed to pass Max in free air by not pitting. instead they got their 2 drivers to follow the train because they didn't want to give one driver an advantage in the WDC resulting in neither driver winning.

Undercut or overcoat doesnt work there, presumably due to tyre deg not being an issue

As someone stated, tyres are too good, lose race strategy, driving strategy opportunities. It helps quali order become the race finish order.

Make the tyres vulnerable as they used to be, mandatory 2 stops

I agree, was a boring race to watch. Looking forward to the next few races ahead.

I think he and Tsunoda did well. Worth remembering that Red Bull bought upgrades to Suzuka for the rear of their car so the car is not the same as the one Lawson drove in Aus/China also.

Did well to get out of Q1, still making mistakes in his flying lap (early on this time) but the car doesn't seem to keep punishing you for it for the rest of the lap like the RB did.

He lost 0.5 in the 30s S1 alone in Q2 and we didn't see his lap, but I'm prepared to bet he ran wide at 4 and then was slow through the run to Degna 1 and 2. It happens.

Enjoyed Jacques V. Straight talker, no need to be diplomatic if you disagree, he just says no, and why.

Hi folks... On a completely unrelated topic.

Posting here instead of a dedicated thread because I want to make sure F1 enthusiasts see this.

I'm not sure if @tdgeek will post his McLaren here, but this is the Williams my daughter put together:

Lap 47 I started cooking dinner. Oh the hype of the weekend and then it was a parade of 53 laps.

I'm not getting up at 3am for Bahrain... Saudi at 5am I can do, and I like the track.

Moving on from Japan...

The little things make the biggest difference.
