thermonuclear:

I watched Lawson's session via the car cam feed, I thought he went okay given he was on hards for the only meaningful running he got.  His negotiation of the Chicane (miss the Bus Stop) and particularly La Source was average looking from in-car.

Once he got going and had some temp in the tyres he was holding it flat through Eau Rouge/Raidillon which was nice to see.  I'm sure he was wary of not putting it off the track so wasn't right on the edge.  Still, five plus seconds off Verstappen's times was sobering.

Shame about the Haas delay and then rain in the last ten minutes ruining his chance to get more laps in on the softs.  What did you guys make of it all?

I dont read anything into Liams run. First go, so its about experience and DO NOT BIN IT. More a run around the track for practice. Probably wasnt allowed to explore his pace, too much risk

Engine penalties make no difference to Max

His strategy should be use new parts every race.

Fun first two laps. Then Red Bull/Max Verstappen dominance. That is all.

I found it good. No worse than Mercedes for 8 years. At least RBR doesnt have a 50hp better engine and is 2 seconds per lap faster, so every race anywhere is a foregone conclusion

Same thing all season.

As I said he should just get a new engine start from the back otherwise it's going to be boring.

That's about how I saw the race this weekend.
Went to bed around half way mark as was pretty inevitable.

Total dominance and no other team in the same ballpark.

Was secretly hoping for some rain like in the earlier practise days, but not as much as last year 😂

Liam handled himself well, both in his race and his practise outing.

This year is pretty much sorted now.

Fall from grace for both Hamilton (pretty average driving led to that crash) and Mercedes this year.
Considering they had the late form to take the drivers championship last year, to be where they are now this year with that unique car design gamble is just embarrassing.  Good to see George giving it a go near the end there though.

McLaren nowhere to be found.  If DR could make a switch back there it would be a sound move.  Don't see his street market value as being as high as it once was now though.  Sounds like they do a strange contract payout when leaving but gets refunded / paid for by new team if you move into another competitive drive seat, or something along those lines.  Explains why likes of Kimi took some longer time off before returning again later. It's not F1, but would be cool to see DR in nascar, where he'd go down well with the crowd.

I was referring to Mercedes 2014 onwards, with such a huge benefit. RBR doesn't have that, and when they won 4 titles their car was midfield at best in the speed traps. They are fast in the speed traps now, because they trim their wing, which any other team can do

It hasnt been the same all season, Ferrari were rocking it. When MSC was winning that was boring too? And Mercedes? That yes was actually boring as the engine was leagues ahead of anyone else. Engines are closer now. Spa was a race that suited the low wing, unsure why others didnt do that. Ferrari though more wing gets the temp up, didnt seem to work. At the end of the day there is no car with a physical or engine advantage, so IMO RBR have been awesome to put the whole package together. They haven't dominated every track, so when others fail with crashes or bad strategy, someone is there to pick the pieces.

Its a lot better and fairer if the best team isnt riding on any one massive advantage that no one else has.

I'm looking at the Dutch F1 session times and it seems as if Spark Sport have the wrong times; F1 says that practice 1 starts at 12am but Spark is showing it at 10pm tonight... can someone clarify the session times for this weekend?

Edit: hmm seems like my google calendar is not setting the right time offsets for this and putting it back 1.5 hours oddly.

CRB decision is out. Piastri confirmed to McLaren. Sounds like Alpine behaved pretty shoddily. "Binding contract" was nothing of the sort so the "lack of integrity" stuff was well off piste. What is it with Otmar and his CEOs...

Yeah. It was pre Ottmar though. Deep down he probably knew it wasn’t solid

RBR written off after FP 2. “Max should be in top 6”

Yeah pretty hard reading if you're an Alpine fan.  Adding words onto a document after it's signed doesn't make it binding.

Still they had invested a lot in this kid, but let it all go after a road map that would have seen him in Williams for a few years unless something came at Alpine etc.
May have all played out differently after the Vettel > Alonso move but we'll never know.

Question now is still where does DR go, if anywhere, and MS move from hASS too?
