Perfect quali for Liam. P3 in Q1 and then gave Yuki two tows in Q2 so didn't record a lap time for Q2. His Q1 time was faster than Yukis Q2 time

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Yeah 2/10 behind with as you say, two tows to help, cracking lap by Liam.

I can see Yuki struggling, he sees himself as the next RBR driver. He may well overdrive to be seen as the unofficial No.1 in VCARB. Add in his fiery attitude, that may affect him.

Max a bit stiff. Not the fastest car as ghost car has shown, but it seems super stable.

I don't think he could have done any better (with the run plan they put in play). His Q1 time would have been good enough for P9 in Q3 - I know artificial comparison...different track conditions etc. Seemed to impress his engineer at least. If he can be that quick in the race he'll be fun to watch!

P3 in Q1 was a statement. I followed him in F2, not the greatest qualifier. But P3 in Q1 with that car was huge. While I dont wish ill of Yuki, I can see him unravelling. Then Liam gave him two goes sliptstreaming, still 2/10 behind.

Man that was a great race. Lawson in 9th and showing great pace. Battle between Max and Lando was awesome.

Ferrari has some race pace too!

^^ Yes - really thrilled for Liam Lawson in his first race under his new arrangement. Great performance moving from 19th on grid to 9th - didn’t put a foot wrong.

Fantastic drive by Lawson. 19th to 9th is great for any driver! Really showed up Tsunoda in that race. Lawson definitely my driver of the day (biases maybe in play a bit here).

Personally dont like that Verstappen was allowed to push Lando off both times and also went off the track doing so but only Lando gets a penalty. I know others wont agree with me and thats fine. I think McLaren were wrong to tell him not to give the place back at the time as it proved to be.

Ferraris deservedly first and second.

Agree with most of this.  Thought Lando was a bit optimistic at the time but re watching the onboards, if Max couldn't make the corner himself on his line, where was Lando supposed to go?

I'd like to see a review video of all the times this happened and the outcomes/who was penalised.  I'm not a fan at all of divebomb style overtakes, or this sort of cornering that requires the other person to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

Lando and the McLaren team though has a lot of maturing to do.  Again he bottled the start and left room for a car to wedge into the inside line at the first corner.  I don't think that would have been possible against Oscar there but Lando left the door open again.  As a team he should have given that place back and had several more laps to try again.  Same thing as that race where Oscar one after Lando led sulking for 12 laps or so before giving it back to Oscar.  If Lando had let him pass immediately he could have been fighting for the overtake during that time.

Also got me thinking about the rule ahead at the apex, and how the apex is in different places dependent on the line you are taking into the corner.  Today's track is very wide so there are potentially multiple lines going on, so you could potentially see how different drivers could perceive this differently.

Yuki screaming how did this happen when Liam came out ahead was gold.  Exceptional weekend for Liam in what is the world's longest F1 job interview and with a range of newer competition coming up too.  He's been waiting so long there are now younger newer exciting options emerging.

Ferrari dropping Carlow for Lewis feels wrong given how Carlos is driving for them and the smarts he brings.  Assuming it's a combo of hope from Lewis's experience and marketing clout.  Constructors championship starting to open up now.

You should have seen lap 1.

Sainz tried the Verstappen trick by pushing Verstappen off the track but for some reason Ferrari did not protest so Verstappen got to keep his P2 on lap 1.

It would have been an interesting debate if they protested.

Difference there was both drivers were off the track though, so maybe that's why they didn't protest.

Ferrari's have great type deg and cruising in the lead, is this real life? Nice positioning by LeClerc too take lead on lap 1 from 2nd row, unfortunate for Sainz.

Great job Liam 19th to 9th, couple of great passes on Fernando (despite the old foxes attempted mind games). I missed how Russell got past him but I assume just Merc being in another classes probably.

Hamilton washed up again, Sainz driving well all weekend, good undercut on Max. Affected by a weird issue or might have been more of a Ferrari vs Ferrari battle.

Yuki showed again he's too temperamental for Red Bull to seriously consider, only still there because of Honda (which ends after 2025)

Good battle between Max and Lando, McClaren shouldn't have risked the penalty there were enough laps for another pass and Lando had the car/type advantage. Another in the string of McClaren strategy mistakes this year that have affected Lando's results, reminds me of Ferari in previous years.

Cooldown room had a nice Sainz and Max chat

Ferrari could win the constructors if they finish 1-2 rest of year!

Lap 1 is always treated slightly differently, cold types etc, see Oscar's divebomb move on Lando in Hungary for example - no penalty

Hard to understand why McLaren picked option 3 unless they were trying to do 1 and failed...

1. Lando: pull a 5 sec gap NOW!

2. Lando: give him back the place and pass him again. You have 5 laps.

3. Do nothing, hold your breath and hope for the best.

Max did go off the track with Lando though.  Max couldn't make the corner himself with the angle he'd taken (or could have but opened it up to squeeze Lando).
Lando was always along side Max, front wheels ahead of Max's rear wheels.
Reminds me of Alonso's "all the time you have to leave a space..." comments in that situation.

Also do you have to have a protest from someone before the stewards will investigate or make a rulling?
