Any ideas on coverage through next week with the practice days?

What's the bet that Chase from Liberty has orchestrated this? He wants F1 big in the US, this will help that. Also attracting F1 fans to Indycar. I can see these two formulas being cousins in the modern era, as they have been in the past

I've watched a lot of scott dixon's races. it's not easy to win. the difference between first and last is not how fast you can drive, because everybody is going around the same speed. but in strategy, fuel management, pit stops, etc.

Yes, but as you say, they are all fast. Corners are super important. The team can manage strategy and stops. You can take the low line, wider line for more speed and more distance to travel, grip, etc. Its a real science. Nascar more so as heavier cars. They run different diameter wheels, camber is key.

Admittedly I have watched hardly any Indycars for a while, its boring as. Nascar I used to watch every race, went to one in Atlanta one year

Alex Rossi is ok. I should look up his race and watch it.

Taking corners at 354kph in practice is easy for him. Doing that for 4 hours racing side by side with 20 cars all doing 354kph +/- 1 for the first time in your life - I don't expect him to be anywhere near the podium. Of course he could prove me wrong by all means.

We can wait and see. 354k in a corner sat any good if everyone else is 1 or 2 k quicker due to a better setup, and using the right lines (of many) at any time of the race. You can run low if you have the grip, run higher and use apexes to run further but faster. Fitness wise, Im unsure. 4 corners with two straights as compared to 17 corners ad two straights. There is a bit more non focus time at super speedways. Half mile tracks is harder, but they are shorter overall distance as well.

How will he do? If he has a good car, and it seems he will have, and he will have days and days of practice, I think he will get the car where it should be. By that I mean pacers with Indycar and Nascar its a lot of strategy and luck. Rossi was running 6th at the end last year, many seconds behind, in a good car, but saved fuel and won

But the cars are faster. That fixed everything right?

Umm, no surprises here really. This fact was known right from the day the 2017 regulations were published.

Yes it was a yawn, I nodded off, I hear there was a safety car. The tyres may be too good? Vettel was catching Bottas hand over fist 10 laps out, and with 7 lap fresher tyres, you would expect as both tyres worn down, that 7 laps fresher would make more difference , but the tyres last forever. Tyre life seems now not to be a strategy option. Unless you add 30 laps to a race.

Hamilton, what's up with that?

At least it looks like a 4 horse race every race from now on

That's the best part.  Better than a two car show.

Fans/viewers want close racing, without too much artificial manipulation/intervention.

You also need to provide the ability for mistakes, and the likes of refuelling stops and tyre changes etc all contribute to this.

Rather than address this, they opted to make the cars faster.  Honestly most won't notice a 5 second a lap increase in speed of a processional train.  It makes no real difference to my enjoyment, I just see a group of cars who can't pass or follow particularly closely going around a bit faster.

Ugh, McLaren, it's just getting worse. Bit of a snore fest, though a few more laps might've been interesting with Vettel closing in on Bottas.
