Munro is the new McCullum, and his average is 19. But he is not BMC and his average make him a liability. as does the pressure that flows through every other batsman starting with Guptill. I'm offering bigly that he can stay, but much further down the order, thats a big concession, but he cannot open, but he will and he will be in the WC, and that ois a huge fail. Guptill is safe. I dont want CdeG either, another part time batsman that gives a reward every now and then. and a part time bowler
The thing is Munro can open, but he cant open and hit 6s immediately. I personally think its Stead who is the issue in this. Both the 10rpo opening and the 300 goal, are backward. And whilst Munro can definitely open, I think he would be off much use with an over of getting his eyes in and then smashing the ball, so swap him with Latham.
As per the question on Latham, there have been many great Capatains who have opened and Kept with the gloves. I dont see it being too much of an issue.
Where did you get 19 from, his average is 25...
Whats funny about that is before they moved Mccullum from 7 to opener his average was about 19, he finished with an average of only 30 and SR only 96. We think of him as this 10rpo type god, but the BBL is showing hes not that good and never was. A SR of 96 is less than 6rpo. Munro could easily average 40 if Stead gave him an acheivable game plan as opener.
First Class Munro averaged 52 vs Mccullums 37.
I think its clear Munro isnt the issue, its what NZ are trying to achieve in the first 10.
