And I believe I should be the rightful winner of Lotto on Wednesday... Doesn't make it true.

I think many Australians will be annoyed, but he's craftely, to use the example above, found a tax loophole.

His intent I believe was always to make a scene either way.

If that happened in NZ, it'd be all about Kindness and Aroha.

Yeah right,

There has already been enough pitchfork waving over people not getting MIQ spots,  I think if an unvaccinated sports person arrived and was allowed to skip MIQ there would likely be riots....

But TBH with 100K daily cases nationwide, its probably time  for OZ to just drop its border restrictions....

With Djokovic being announced as replacement for Emma the yellow Wiggle - he'd get a spot easily.

the court case yesterday was a lawyer win.

i watched the whole thing yesterday (well when the feed was not down)

basically djokovic lawyers were having a field day, holding the floor for hours and hours, talking non stop without interruption

then the judge asked the govt lawyer if he has anything to say, he said "i don't disagree with the defendant's lawyers, what i have to say i have submitted and you have read"

djokovic lawyers said he asked to be given till 8.30am, immigration agreed, but for some reason was ejected at 7am.

the govt lawyer had absolutely nothing to say about anything including that.

so naturally the judge agreed with djokovic lawyers and ruled that he wasn't given enough time.

i mean there was about 1000 reasons the govt lawyer could have countered but the did not give one. (the submission he gave was quoting some old case and he had had no counter). i don't think he likes his job very much.

Don't be so sure about it! People forget things... and also, the last "incident" with the DJ that broke MIQ rules, ended up with him not being charged. I wouldn't be so surprised if this case happened in NZ and there were no consequences to Djokovic.

Was probably told not to fight it by someone. Unless of course he was a huge fan 🤣

Totally this.

The DJ situation made it pretty clear that the 'rules' are not rules at all but guidelines that can be ignored at the peril of the entire country with no consequences.

I'm now reading in the news that Border Force are investigating that he claimed he had not travelled outside his home country in the 14 days prior to travelling to Australia in the biosecurity declaration, despite having been seen in Spain. There is no way you could argue that he could have a "reasonable belief" that his statement is true, if reports are correct then you can bet it's the weapon they'll use to evict him (and again, if true, rightly so).

Unfortunately you can guarantee that the Federal Government will bungle the PR aspects of the case. They're really not very good at it, which is ironic since they're led by the former head of both Tourism Australia and Tourism New Zealand - literally a marketing guy!

there's no way they are going to deport him now

govt is now is a lose lose situation.

if you don't deport him you look bad

if you deport him you look worse

so Djokovic is staying and playing

may the best person win
