I sincerely hope sanity prevails and it is not the legacy of those innocent that are lost that a wider conflict ensues

I hope its not prophetic that July 27 is near

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Gilco2: Officials now claim offically of a recording they have of rebels shooting the plane down.

This is not good if Russia is indirectly involved.   Just shudder to think possible ramifications

One of the papers I read, said a Rebel commander was bragging about shooting down a Ukraine transport plane, as the same location.

Sounds very much like a major mistake due to lack of positive identification.

However, take it all with a grain of salt.

You can see it fall off the radar here. Lots of other airlines around the same spot at the time.

Realistically the missiles to do that are most likely from Russia.....

Even if the rebels did it which seems quite likely, Ukraine needs to take some of the blame for rejecting truce talks. Why were civilian aircraft flying over a war zone anyway?

Awful news, makes me so angry. But also, the amount of Palestinians that have died in the last 2 weeks makes me hate this world some times.

Sad news.

It should be noted that airspace over Ukraine is not a no-fly zone.

It would appear there are civilian planes in the air right now:

It looks like a catastrophic mistake on the part on those involved in giving the order.

Edit: Updated flightradar24 URL to reflect Ukrainian airspace

I read this morning, that commercial airliners have transponders which missile systems big enough to take a plane out at that altitude and speed, will refuse to fire on if you "paint" the target. You would need to "override" the command sequence to make the system fire said missile. Based on that, little chance it was unintentional. Maybe wrong airline.

One might hope that despite the horrific consequences, that the consequences may force cooler heads to prevail and somewhat diffuse tensions in the area as they concentrate on this rather than the original conflict.
