Looks very likely.

If it went down where they thought, then eventually that's in the area where debris might appear.

Barnacles grow fast.

East Madagascar and Somalian coast search might find other stuff.

It does. 777's have many unique parts, and the state of this wreckage is more like MH370 timeframe than the other two much older crashes, Mary Schiavo states

If it is MH370 I would be very embarrassed to be InmerSat. They were 100% confident the plot they did was correct and alot of countries spent resources searching in those areas.

No, if you look at the links I gave above with wind/ocean current, then where this wreckage was found is where it should have been eventually found if it went down in the search area.  Those links show "live" data, but that's typical prevailing conditions.  Whether more buoyant debris might have already made it further west, or if it did, then whether that could be recognised as aircraft wreckage amongst all kinds of flotsam/junk washing up from the ocean is another story.

They seem to have basically confirmed it is as it is the only 777 that has come down in this area. All they are waiting for its to confirm the serial numbers. But anything is possible in this story. I Guess it could be a part from a test plane.

mattwnz: This looks quite convincing that the part is from a 777

They will easily tell, as the part numbers are individual aircraft based. Solve the mystery? No. It may allow a narrowing of the crash destination, but even then, too much time for debris to circulate

At least it will eliminate some of the wackiest "theories".

The question is whether they will ever find the black boxes and, in the unlikely event that they do, will they provide any useful information? It seems likely that someone on board disabled all the electronics, which probably includes the black boxes.

I believe this piece of debris is very likely to be from MH370, but it is still very unlikely that we will ever know what really happened.

Looks like a suitcase has now been found near where the wing part was found

it neither confirms nor disproves anything by immersat. it just shows that there was a 777 in the indian ocean. hopefully the MH one. then at least it gives some closure to the families who still cling on to hope their relatives are alive in pakistan.

there is only one possible cause - pilot, co-pilot.
the more likely was the pilot who did it. very very intricately plotted.

might take decades to locate the FDR by chance :(

there are tens of less likely theories like being hacked by someone like a Jeep ... possible! but ... also then flying it the path it took from the point of "Goodnight Malaysian 370" ... was flown by a pilot, not a PC gamer ...

Yeah info I read way back at the start suggested some of these, especially the cabin voice recorder etc, are on a 2 hour cycle only, so there is a good chance they'll have a lot of silence only...
