Why? The Chiefs/Hurricanes game went ahead as well? The deciding factor I believe in the Warriors decision was that a team had travelled internationally. 

Personally, I would have canned both games, but I can at least see why the Warriors played.

I was actually pretty grateful for sport over the weekend.

There were many NZ sports persons and teams competing offshore over the weekend from motorsport, hockey, football..... I saw many show respect for the events of Friday and caring towards the victims and families.

Paul Coll (our top NZ Squash player) won the Canary Classic over the weekend. There was a moment of silence prior and he made a reference to dedicating his win to those affected by the shootings. 

It didn't seem inappapropriate in my view.

A friend of mine posted below on Facebook yesterday. He loves shooting and has invested a lot of time and money into it. This is how a responsible and reasonable person thinks. This is pretty different from Tipple.

I am absolutely horrified that someone could shoot innocents. I can get War , not this.

I have an AR15. I also have an E-Cat licence and high capacity magazines for it. I use it for deer shooting and it’s fun.
My neighbours would probably be a tad nervous knowing the potential sitting in my safe.
I knew yesterday 2 seconds after hearing what had happened(as did most intelligent gun owners) that the Government would be coming for my Rifle. I also took calls and txts from friends asking for advice about their guns and more than one talked of burying theirs in the garden.
No matter what you say to me you will never change my opinion.
An AR (Automatic Rifle) 15 is a weapon of war, it’s the biggest selling firearm in the world and it’s easy to use , clean and unfortunately Kill.
I will happily give up my gun on a buy back scheme.
I also have an 8 shot semi auto shotgun that I use all year for Geese. They perp used a semi auto shotgun.
I will be very reluctant to give this up. Its a great piece of kit, i shoot well with it and it is necessary to harvest the most geese at one time.
Taking my rifle is the right thing to do. My Shotgun maybe not.
But I will comply with whatever decision.

This is my prediction, banning these weapons will not stop what happened. It will make it harder, yes but there will be underground weapons.
In fact I would be astonished if there was not a massive spike in sales yesterday at Gun shops of Guns, high capacity Mags and Ammo

Maybe Mike is correct when he said ban all firearms. After all it cant be a people issue its an issue over a piece of evil metal it seems

This largest gun dealer in NZ and a de facto spokesperson for the gun lobby didn't just "own" a fast car, he used it in an irresponsible manner thus blatantly endangering the general public, was apprehended, reportedly abused and intimidated a police officer to the extent that the police officer felt that the safest and only option available at that time was to just let him go (if he'd done that in the USA, he'd have possibly been shot), then drove off again and was apprehended shortly after.  His response to being caught being an a-hole was utter contempt for the law, presumably raging anger, and that set him off driving in an even more dangerous manner.

You think it's appropriate to excuse him because he's a "family man",  thus his extremely dangerous behaviour behind the wheel, contempt for reasonable laws, intimidation of a police officer is okay, and not reflective of his general "character" - which is something supposedly (but obviously at the moment arguably insufficient) vetted before granting any other person a firearm license.

That's just so deluded.

Talk about BS. Who says I excuse him???   If you want to complain about him ask the Police, they are the one supporting him supposedly or by your argument. The issue here is his sign. He will talk about that today and his opinion on the gun laws way forward. Irregardless of his behaviour thats relevant. For a number of reasons, but lets ignore all that and ignore my opinions on weapons , gun laws and so forth and just focus on one individual. His antics are not the issue, its a side story, and a side story that is between you and those who allow him to run a gun shop. The actual issue is his sign and what he will say about that. And as he has stated he will state his opinion on gun laws, that's relevant. To me it is anyway. And what about the gun association who doesn't want semis banned? Yes we ignore that. Tipple is not the issue. If he AND is other legal gun sellers are selling magazines, which they are, that's the issue. I want him to talk about that, even if no one else does

Pretty much I was in total shock, glued to the TV or otherwise consumed by the event itself, the victims and the rest of everything else.

Even if he had the presence of mind to immediately be thinking about that sign, did anyone really want a crane and work people blocking roads etc on Friday night or even Saturday in the dark assuming he could have found work people and vehicles willing or able to go out immediately?

I think people need some perspective here, and to calm down a fair bit.

I am not really sure where certain people get off speaking to others in these threads the way they do. Almost certainly the tone wouldn't be the same in person.

I'm at fault, I apologise. No excuse. I'm on the same side as everyone, I haven't my conveyed my thoughts properly.

He could have covered the sign with a $10 tarp, but he didn't. Whether he thought of it or not, no idea

I actually haven't seen the sign properly. Assuming it's higher up, and near a road, it would likely require traffic management approval, not exactly something you can get instantly. Even throwing a tarp over it, needs to be secured, health and safety stuff to consider.
