CNN: Trump’s turn against Israel offers stark reminder of what his diplomacy looks like

Donald Trump’s inflammatory and artless comments about Hamas’ horror in Israel emphasize the defining characteristic of his attitude toward foreign policy and his entire political world view: It’s all about him.

Trump criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, lauded Hezbollah militants as “very smart” and sought political gain from the attacks that killed 1,200 people by claiming that if the last election was not “rigged,” he’d be the American president and they’d never have happened.

The ex-president openly admitted a grievance against Netanyahu, complaining he had pulled out at the last minute from joining the US air attack that assassinated Iranian intelligence chief Qasem Soleimani in Iraq in 2020. Trump had previously fumed over the Israeli leader’s perceived disloyalty in recognizing he lost the election.

Trump is now a private citizen, and it’s possible he wouldn’t have addressed the situation in the same way if he were president – although there were multiple examples of his tone deafness and indiscretion when he was in the White House. But he’s also the 2024 Republican front-runner for president and his statements are therefore scrutinized for clues over how he would behave in office.

His latest comments add to plentiful evidence that a second Trump term would be even more riotous at home and globally disruptive than his first four years in power.

Interesting BBC article.

Could an Israeli ground invasion of Gaza meet its aims? - BBC News

There was also an interesting article in my local Stuff paper by left wing writer Gwynne Dyer who suggests that Netanyahu actually wanted Hamas to survive in the past because while they run Gaza and the Palestinian Authority run the West Bank there was no possibility of implementing or even discussing a possible two state solution.

Ironically, if Netanyahu's aim of destroying Hamas comes about and the PA takes over running the remains of Gaza the discussions about a two state solution could then be back on the table.

Only way to truly destroy Hamas is to undertake a full ethnic cleansing in Gaza which would be a Genocide.

Well, these Hamas idiots managed to create at least one martyr.

The opinion of my Palestinian neighbours is that Israel is already conducting genocide. It's not an unusual opinion amoungst Palestinians.

Hamas does not respect rights of those with alternative lifestyles unlike somewhere else.
The people at the festival included many new age types who would be votes against the hard right, and support peace.
Mutilated and killed without mercy. Now they have no vote.

You know, since I was a child,
I always complained to my father about Hamas abuse of power and their brutality.
You know, they are very strict they are very religious.
They they're fanatics, and but I did not think at some you know, they would cause all this global
You know, they are we saw their
I witnessed their brutality first hand when I was in prison, when they tortured so many Palestinian people for suspicion
of collaborating with Israel.
And this is basically when I start questioning Hamas

Hamas government had imposed strict rules on women, discouraged activities commonly associated with Western culture, oppressed non-Muslim minorities, imposed sharia law, and deployed religious police to enforce these laws.[5]
According to a Human Rights Watch researcher, the Hamas-controlled government of Gaza stepped up its efforts to "Islamize" Gaza in 2010, efforts that included the "repression" of civil society and "severe violations of personal freedom".[6]
""
Palestinian researcher Dr. Khaled Al-Hroub has criticized what he called the "Taliban-like steps" Hamas has taken. He wrote, "The Islamization that has been forced upon the Gaza Strip – the suppression of social, cultural, and press freedoms that do not suit Hamas's view[s] – is an egregious deed that must be opposed. It is the reenactment, under a religious guise, of the experience of [other] totalitarian regimes and dictatorships."[55]

Lebanon is also in the balance as well, for once the extermination in Israel is complete Hezbollah can fully turn its attention to those there that don't fit.

The situation is exactly the same as 75 years ago. Two sides at war. The difference is the weapons used have had years of development are much more deadly to large numbers of people.

A complete and abject failure by both sides ruling classes and it's the ordinary people that pay the price not the politicians in Tel Aviv or Qatar.

I think we should re-introduce the idea that a nation's leaders must actually fight at the front of any army involved in a war. And what a surprise - no more wars.

German Vice-Chancellor speaks out on antisemitic incidents – DW – 11/02/2023

(video, German)

Declaration of Hamas being a terrorist group, the need of self-defence, "both sides" arguments are wrong, anti-colonialism should not lead to anti-semitism, intolerance should not be tolerated.

vacuate to where? Israel won't take them, Egypt won't take them. Gaza is still blockaded and that won't change.

A fair chunk wouldn't leave anyway as they are justfiiably concerned about never being able to return.

To evacuate northern Gaza without being bombed.

Why don't they transport all 2 million civilians to the west bank..

Ethnic cleansing generally isn’t considered a good solution.
