BBC News - Why the world is watching RFK's fight with US health agency

In fiery Senate testimony this week, US health secretary Robert Kennedy Jr once again set his sights on the nation's top public health agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

His appearance came days after he suddenly fired the new CDC director, Susan Monarez, provoking a group of senior staffers to resign in protest.  ...

Kennedy's words have sparked a furious backlash, with many doctors and scientists increasingly concerned that America's public health systems are being dangerously compromised. ...

The next flashpoint could come later this month.

On 18 September the CDC's new vaccine advisory panel is due to meet to discuss Covid vaccines and other shots, including for hepatitis B and the RSV virus.

The panel's recommendations and the CDC's response will be carefully scrutinised, not just in the US but around the world. ...

Kennedy is a disease. He will kill many people. 😒

Disclosure: I am a retired doctor.

Speaking of Kennedy...

https://www.thebulwark.com/i/172831856/rfk-jr-goes-mask-off

During his confirmation hearings before the Senate HELP Committee earlier this year, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was a soothing, solicitous presence. Don’t you worry about a thing, he breathed to those Republican senators skittish of his lengthy history of anti-vaccine crackpottery. I won’t make waves. I won’t cause a fuss. Why pick a fight with Donald Trump over little ol’ me?

Yesterday, Kennedy—long since confirmed and busily taking a torch to America’s public-health agencies—came to the Senate again. This time, he cut a different, far more arrogant figure.

I'm glad I'm not a Kennedy.

RFKjr was well known before the hearings for 'doublespeak'.
His actions though spoke very clearly of what he might do,
and really he has only just started.

3 and a bit more years to go, USA health system will be unrecognizable.
Unfortunately some of the best technology and capabilities will be lost to the world.
All manner of things will fall behind.

We might already be seeing some results of loss of funding for mosquito countermeasures compounded by USAID etc being defunded.

The Senators at the hearing had all the resources to know the real Kennedy well before, and Democrats reminded them during the process.

All that mattered was the Trump rubber stamp.
Orange 'El Duce' said he liked the guy, so really Kennedy could have gone mask off for same result.

Unfortunately, this will likely empower the anti crowd for our election next year.
Sadly, certain groups will be very well funded.

The NY Times - Energy Secretary Attacks Offshore Wind and Dismisses Climate Change

05 Sep 2025

Chris Wright, who travels to Europe next week to promote American gas, called climate change “not incredibly important.”

Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Friday defended the Trump administration’s decision to block a nearly completed $6.2 billion wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island by saying offshore wind increases electricity prices ...

A former fracking executive, Mr. Wright said the focus in the United States to transition away from fossil fuels had hurt the country. ...

Climate change, for impacting the quality of your life, is not incredibly important,” Mr. Wright said. “In fact, if it wasn’t in the news, in the media, you wouldn’t know.

a long-form article, worth reading ...

The NY Times - How JPMorgan Enabled the Crimes of Jeffrey Epstein   (unlocked link)

A Times investigation found that America’s leading bank spent years supporting - and profiting from - the notorious sex offender, ignoring red flags, suspicious activity and concerned executives.

Sept. 8, 2025

Epstein had long been a treasured customer at JPMorgan. His accounts were brimming with more than $200 million. He generated millions of dollars in revenue for the bank, landing him atop an internal list of major money makers. He helped JPMorgan orchestrate an important acquisition. He introduced executives to men who would become lucrative clients, like the Google co-founder Sergey Brin, and to global leaders, like Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel. He helped executives troubleshoot crises and strategize about global opportunities.

But a growing group of employees worried that JPMorgan’s association with a man who had pleaded guilty to a sex crime - and was under federal investigation for human trafficking - could harm the bank’s reputation.  ...

Three reporters, who started investigating Epstein more than six years ago, reviewed more than 13,000 of pages of legal and financial records for this article.

The NY Times - Bolsonaro Sentenced to 27 Years in Prison for Plotting Coup in Brazil

breaking

Brazil’s Supreme Court on Thursday convicted former President Jair Bolsonaro of overseeing a failed conspiracy to overturn the 2022 Brazilian election in a coup plot that included disbanding courts, empowering the military and assassinating the president-elect.

Four of the five justices weighing the case voted to convict Mr. Bolsonaro and seven co-conspirators, including his running mate, defense minister and Navy commander, in a forceful rebuke by one of the very institutions the men sought to overthrow. ...

The conviction is a landmark ruling for Latin America’s largest nation.

In at least 15 coups and coup attempts with links to the military since Brazil overthrew its monarchy in 1889, Thursday marked the first time the leaders of one of those plots have been convicted.

I hope that Donald Trump is paying attention to this matter.   😉

App built to report Kirk’s critics outs its own users

The platform, launched just days after Kirk’s assassination on September 10th, urged people to submit “intel” on teachers, medical professionals, business owners, and other public figures who allegedly promoted “political violence or discrimination.”

“We do not seek revenge or mob justice. Our goal is transparency – to ensure that individuals in positions of power cannot hide hateful words or actions from public scrutiny. They should NOT be harassed, threatened, or harmed in any way,” explains the website.

Someone sent me video

The Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) is one of the highest-paid public officials in the country, and the salary often exceeds what many national presidents or prime ministers earn.

She justifies it by saying it's a central bank is like running a large financial institution.

Well in this case, quit, and let someone who wants to be a public official have the position.

The RBNZ Governor gets paid more than the PRESIDENT of the USA, at $800/year

I'm sorry, what makes her a deplorable? Accepting a job that has a salary set by the NZ Government Remuneration Authority?

How about letting Dr Anna Breman prove her worth as Governor instead of labelling her a deplorable person when she hasn't even started the job.

SMH.
