People are making posts about politics....you are making negative posts about posters. There is a difference between writing an alternative political view point and writing an attack on said poster.

I find the Governments spending spree somewhat a concern.

Same. I am all for providing aid in an emergency, however, I forsee dependancy issues growing here.

There are some NZ Gita affected wondering where their help is. I am sure they could use 9K for every man woman and child.

For the bulk of the aid, it's not a Jacinda/Labour problem, it's a cross-party thing that has been going on for years.

However, all her latest announcements are questionable. She wasn't obliged to give more. She could have just given the leaders a pair of shoes. If she was in a magnanimous mood she could have given them 20 or 30 pairs. But unfortunately liberal splashing about of money with little regard for 'return' has become the trademark of this government.

I shall certainly be annoyed if I start reading stories about people in New Zealand not getting things they need....

Specific aid relating to an unforeseen event like a hurricane or earthquake is one thing.

Free money for third party countries not part of NZ on a permanent basis is something else entirely. Either they become colonies of NZ, or they stand on their own two feet.

I find it interesting you make this claim, when so many of your replies are just making bored noises (repeatedly) at those of us who believe the policies being created are poorly thought out.

From what I can see, most your opinions, aren't of policies, or pro's and con's of the current Government, just complaining about those of us who are expressing those opinions.

Finance Minister Grant Robertson has signalled that property owners benefiting from the building of the Auckland rail links could be subject to a special "value capture" tax.

Wow, seems like they want to tax everything. Shortly I am expecting a tax on happiness. Smile, pay the toll!

Surely the POINT of the rail network is to improve companies profitability through various methods.

I first read about that idea the best part of a year ago wrt the CRL and it being implemented by Auckland Council. Nothing to do with the (then) National government.

I'm pretty sure "improving companies' profitability" is well down the list of reasons for building rail too.

As for the Pacific spending, chump change compared to the $10b National wanted to waste on unneeded and underutilized roading projects including the $1.8b East-West Link (the most expensive per-km road in the world).

The best possible investment we could make in the Pacific is some trusty fishing boats for Kiribati so they stop wasting the RNZAF's time doing constant search and rescues.

We are small a country with significant domestic issues that are underfunded.

Providing aid to our Pacific neighbours made sense when they were allies. We are well past that now.

If you spend money on a road you get a road. If you spend money on relief in the Pacific, you get nothing back.

Regarding new boats for Kiribati - an alternate would be simply to stop searching that area. Let it become someone else's problem (for example Kiribati's).
