I wasn't likely to vote Greens this election anyways, but even after she has quit, the damage done to the Greens by Shaw in defending her and carrying on the way he did a couple of days ago, has completely ensured I will not. He also needs to step down in my opinion. Nothing less would do.

I find it most surprising she came out yesterday saying she wouldn't resign for any reason and today quits. I don't think they have a clue what is going on, and it deeply concerns me.

The dazzling lack of foresight by their advisors in the way this whole thing has been handled is unbelievable. A person with even a modicum of decency would have advised a much better course of action. A simple speech acknowledging the mistake, showing remorse, acknowleding how bad it looked and that she felt it was the right thing to do at the time for her family, but upon reflection she understands how wrong it was and what kind of example that has set, offering to resign but making a statement to the effect that they intended to do something to ensure that others didn't feel they needed to do the same would have been quite effective.

It may well be terminal for this Green party, hopefully a new party will come from this.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

According to the radio there is more to come on this story including photographs of her and her partner sharing the house together. So she is clearly a very dishonest person who should have quit parliament totally.

A lesson here for all....honesty is the best policy....and the sooner the better.

Not sure what you guys are talking about but she has removed herself from the party list so will almost certainly be gone after the election. As there are 45 days left in this term, I'm not really sure why you're baying for more blood.

I'll say.

Seriously. What next? Should the party just file their formal paperwork to disband now, according to you?

I read that she only quit as co-leader...

I think Shaw has summed up everything bad about the green party as it stands now. Disband? Ruthless perhaps, but a good starting point. His inability to take a strong, but correct stand against Turei has shown a culture that is pervasive in that party.

Thankfully that rotten apple Turei has resigned as co-leader "due to family intrusion" - (blame everybody - else not me).

So she steps down ...

But what happens with the MPs that left? Join Labour?

Perhaps you should pay attention. It's pretty clear why we think what we think.

No, I don't think the party should disband. There is an important part for Greens to play in NZ, but they need to sack their leader who has handled this situation appallingly (to say in the nicest possible way) and for them to stop acting in their own self-interest as activist loners and understand they are present to represent their voters which involves behaving in a suitable manner, and playing nicely with others (including forming alliances with the parties who hold bigger votes than them, in the interest of having their views heard and in getting concessions consistent with their policies in exchange for compromise on ideas that other parties hold important).  The fact they have lost damn near 50% of their support shows they are failing miserably with their current agenda and behaviour.

The Greens need to stop acting like children with hurt feelings and accept this situation WAS bad, she DID need to go, and they DID need to handle it differently and if they don't learn to work to some degree within the NZ political system *and* show accountability, their credibility and therefore all the good they could achieve will be gone.

Good result.

I see in the latest polls that the Greens have lost a lot of ground. They could have saved themselves if they got rid of her in the beginning.

She has only stepped down from her leadership roll in the greens. So I take it she is still with the greens, and will still be campaigning for her electorate? Not sure though? In other words can still end up back in parliament! If that is the case, well then NO its not good enough.

I agree I hope the Green Party learns from this experience and returns a more mature professional organization that can be a contributor in Parliament. i hope they develop a set of sensible policies that can bring green policies to mainstream government and cause real change for our future.

There are 3 kinds of voters in NZ (I think)

- National will always vote National

- The others vote between NZ First, Labour, Green

- Then there are the undecided who are likely to vote NZ First, Labour, Green

Ok maybe I don't know what I'm talking about ... !

There is a lot of truth in that. i would add another group, the protest voter, their number varies depending how well we are doing in general.
