Woah. I am meaning to move civilians short term from Gaza to West Bank. So any military actions be taken.

Then once Gaza has been cleared to militants. They can return civilians

If you were Palestinian why would you trust that Israel would allow you to return?

Aside from that how do you distinguish militants from civilians? You’d also be dumping 2 million refugees into the West Bank which has a population of 2.7 million.

The whole idea is entirely impractical.

Your right, not sure I would trust Israel either.. based on past & current actions

What is also wrong is

  • bombing innocent people
  • not allowing humanitarian aid
  • not allowing people to exit the border with egypt

The UN should intervene by giving somewhere for people to move to temporarily and they should be required to allow them to move back afterwards.

Hamas was wrong to kill & kidnap civilians, Israel should be able to fight hamas, but at not at cost to innocent palestinian civilians.. if israel want to be on the right side of conflict, they need to stop aerial bombing..

I saw an interview on CNN with a 22year old female army reserve, saying she is fighting because hamas will come after the rest of the world, that feels quite misguided. she is definitely not fighting hamas on my behalf..

from what i read, these issues stem from one question

they can't tell civilians from Hamas

not ideal, in a war that has been going on for 6000 years, that's how long these guys have been fighting each other

Egypt has already said it won't allow large numbers of Palestinians in.

If Gaza City is emptied of civilians Israel will raze it to the ground so that there is nothing for Palestinians to come back to. Probably the plan even if civilians stay.

IDF now telling civilians to move from a 'safe' city in the south towards the Rafah crossing into Egypt. Guess they are trying to herd them into Egypt. There won't be any buildings or necessary infrastructure left standing in the north of Gaza anyway for them to move back to.

And this is what life is like for some civilians in the occupied West Bank

Meanwhile the National party is crying foul because Chris Hipkins got fed up with National not wanting to upset MFAT by declaring that carpet bombing children is bad and could the Israeli government please stop doing it? and went ahead and said so himself in his capacity as Labour leader instead of [caretaker] PM. So: 1) the leader of a political party (leader of the opposition, indeed) is perfectly entitled to make (shadow) foreign policy announcements and 2) f***'s sake I have low expectations of the incoming government but that is one bar I thought was so low a cockroach could step over it.

The objections appear to be less about the statement but the process that was followed.

If, as is alleged, National was fake consulted, feedback was ignored then given 4 minutes notice of the Labour statement then it appears to be a political rather than a moral exercise. If that is the case then the National objections appear justified.

The caretaker convention exists for a good reason. Either you believe in it or you don’t.

I think they are. It just crossed my mind that a nation's citizens have been taken hostage and that's why they are going in. To get them back wherever they are held captive.

If my family were taken hostage I would sure hope my country's commandos will go and get them back.

Not really. The objective of the ground operation including artillery combined with significant and ongoing air and missile support is to destroy Hamas. Recovery of the hostages is clearly very very secondary.

There are ongoing protests in Israel to prioritise return of the hostages instead. Netanyahu is extremely unpopular for this reason and many others.

The ongoing operations in Gaza have almost certainly caused the death of several hostages already.

Pretty depressing reading if you are a Palestinian in Gaza.

When this truce ends, the decisive next phase of war begins - BBC News

The Israelis need to be careful that herding the Palestinians into a small area doesn't start being described as a ghetto.

The average Palestinian is probably too hungry right now for much reading. Large parts of Gaza were already very ghetto like prior to the war already containing refugees from previous wars.
