I dont follow that as if a party needs to form a coaltion that means there is a smaller party. If we avoid that and go back to the ballot box that's essentially FPP

While many won't support ACT or NZF. National got barely above 1/3 of the vote, they cannot govern on that, no mandate. At least with this coalition that is over 50%.

But I do follow your overall issue

Yes, as horrible as this government seems if they aren't your team, it's a far better system than FPP. If this government isn't your team, imagine how horrible it would be if it was FPP and David Seymour was PM?

Inevitably when people get tired of the poor and familes being helped out, they will vote them out then get tired when only the well off benefit. Perhaps Centre Left and Centre Right are not that Centre? Hipkins had a go, meeting with the business sector and he is more on the right of Labour's Centre Left theme, but that didnt go anywhere. Maybe Labour needs to push more right and National needs to push more left. Businesses cannot survive without workers and workers cannot survive without businesses, but while we can land a device on an asteroid and bring a sample home, we seemingly cannot manage businesses and workers needs, its one or tother

Agree, Robin Hood stole from the rich and gave to the poor, we need a fair redistribution. A poor person has a PDI of zero. a wealthy person after having his say 25% tax taken still has a massive PDI

I wonder who's going to decide what is fair?

And the really wealthy can simply decide to take themselves and their fortune elsewhere so zero tax take from them then.

Thats the $64,000 question (Plus GST off course )

These "toys" that the rich buy, do you suppose that they are produced by a magical genie somewhere and there is no benefit to the wider economy?

The manufacturer of "the toy" no doubt employed staff, pays wages, purchases machinery, pays suppliers for parts to manufacture the toy, pays tax on their profits etc. The staff of the toy manufacturer then also go into the community and spend their money on things, the circle of money goes on.

The "super rich" should be encouraged to continue to invest in NZ and to spend as much money as possible in the NZ economy, especially if part (or most) of the wealth is generated from offshore (exports, overseas investments etc).

Yes, superyachts and helicopters are indeed built by people who have jobs. But many more people would benefit if instead of that money being spent on a big boat, it was spent on public works. How many bloody yachts does one man need?

The other thing about these "toys" is that the people who make them are highly skilled and will be earning a higher wage which increases the tax take too.

So you are suggesting they buy their toys overseas ?

So no jobs, no tax, No public works.... nothing, zilch, nada... and that will benefit anyone in NZ how ?

I think you call that a pyrrhic victory.

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2023/11/new-finance-minister-nicola-willis-says-labour-left-government-books-with-snakes-snails-and-nasty-financial-surprises.html

No details. Like everything from Chris and Nicola, no details, just slogans. "When asked if she could provide an example of the "snakes" left behind by Labour, Willis wouldn't provide any details but added she would provide more transparency over the coming days and weeks. "

We will wait days and weeks I guess, to hear the same avoidance and slogans as we did with the tax cut affordability I would suggest

I suspect the briefings for incoming ministers are still happening as they only just got warrants.

Booby-traps for incoming governments are not uncommon, I'd say they should realistically be expected at this point. Not sure Willis does herself any favours by playing this up - just put together the mini-Budget and show us how bad things are.

She should already know how bad things are. That's what the PREFU is for.

Did you know that just by living in NZ you are among the top 20% for wealth in the world ?

Do you think things are better with no table and no crumbs ?
Plenty of countries will tell you its not.

Good point. We should tax the New Zealand super-rich even more so we can spend it on overseas aid for the even less fortunate than we are.

Its politics, if the books were in good shape, it wont be sold to the media like that, its a game. But what miffs me so much is the lack of transparency and slogans. No different to explaining away the tax cut holes (which continue to grow almost daily) Just say it as you said. If books could be better, exaggerate it. If books are good, don't say anything. Its all words with those two, the campaign ended months ago

And when they are living overseas, become citizens overseas, investing overseas, spending overseas...what then ?

But I am sure as you see how rich you are compared to others, YOUR taxes should also go up significantly too...
