Its very interesting you see Ariana as a hero.

A hero is IMO somebody that puts others lives before their own. Someone who is admired for brave deeds and noble qualities. While a benefit gig is really a nice thing to do, she is not a hero.

There were some true heros at that concert (NHS staff/ambulance staff/GP's etc, even people who were close by. Some stayed to help). Others rushed in to help when all were rushing out.

Here is one of the dictionary definitions of hero:

a person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or ideal:
My older sister is my hero. Entrepreneurs are our modern heroes.

And here is a definition of heroic:

having or displaying the character or attributes of a hero; extraordinarily bold, altruistic, determined, etc.:

Some overtestosteronised individuals may only be capable of conceptualising heroism in the context of the swinging swords and dripping blood of comic books, but like heroes themselves, it is goes way beyond primitive displays of muscle. Heroes are people with the true strength that enables them to be noble and compassionate. On the basis of what she has said and done, Ariana qualifies in spades.

Interesting how some people just can't bear to lose an argument. Of course the experts here know far more about lexicography than those who spend their lives compiling dictionaries. But it is more satisfying to make up your own definitions, isn't it?

If it's anything, this is altruism, not heroism. However the patent self-interest involved probably disqualifies it from being that as well.
