Batman:

yes facts don't matter. the way it is, Biden is not electable for another term. he's really being blamed by every person that has a voice (or internet connection)

Not sure what you're talking about, Biden is still easily electable. Americans are still in favor of withdrawal from Afghanistan even after the cluster exit. No one will care about Afghanistan a year from now.

Also unlike Trump, Biden can handle some criticism without losing his rag over it and saying/doing stupid things as a result.

While Afghanistan dominates cable news, pollsters say Covid is likely the main factor behind Biden’s slip in the polls.

It's incredibly dystopian.

Trump's reign was an utter disaster WRT Covid, he really couldn't have given a toss how many people died, his red hat wearing troopers still the core who are adamantly anti-vax and anti any measures (masks etc) to reduce contagion, yet Orange Man got given an experimental  monoclonal antibody treatment when he caught covid, got vaxxed, is a germophobe almost obsessive compulsive about hand hygiene, and he absolutely detests the class of people who voted him in.

And now Biden gets the blame for Trump's legacy on handling Covid...

It's lunacy - mass delusion.

I would have thought the troops leaving Afghanistan would have made his popularity take a dive, not coronavirus (most of the deaths from it happened under Trump's watch).

Side note, I read Rage and Fear by Bob Woodward. Both very interesting. Waiting for Peril to come out. Reading I Alone Can Fix It at the moment. Also interesting.

The opposite actually.

Most Americans support his stance on pulling out although apparently Afghanistan is way down the vast majority of peoples priority list.

They don't care.

Americans (and people in general) are weird how they blame the leader for everything.

The Afghanistan exit is a massive failure in communication and/or perception on the ground from the US military / intelligence / State dept. I find it utterly impossible to believe that Biden would politically harpoon himself if he knew there was an option to do a less chaotic exit.

If I was him I would be tempted to throw someone under the bus lol.

There's an opinion piece article in the NYT today:

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/25/opinion/declaration-war-president-Congress.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage

End the Imperial Presidency

Suppose President Biden came before Congress to announce that ending the war in Afghanistan was only the beginning. In recent years, the United States has used force on the ground or conducted strikes from the air in at least nine countries: not only Afghanistan, but also IraqKenyaLibyaMaliPakistanSomaliaSyria and Yemen. These wars go on in part because one person wages them. Congress has abdicated its constitutional duty to determine whether, where and whom America should fight.

Mr. Biden inherited this situation, but he need not perpetuate either the ongoing wars or the legal evasions that enable them. He could tell Congress this: It has six months to issue a formal declaration of the wars it wants to continue, or else the troops (and planes and drones) are coming home.

The Washington Post -  Biden’s devastating month stokes midterm fears among Democrats

today

President Biden is mired in the most devastating month of his tenure in office - struggling to contain a deadly crisis in Afghanistan, an unyielding pandemic and other setbacks that have sent waves of anger and worry through his party as his poll numbers decline.

August started with Democrats sounding quiet alarms about the resurgence of the coronavirus and the uncertain fate of Biden’s domestic priorities, tempered by some optimism about the economy and a bipartisan infrastructure deal.

But the month nears its conclusion with sirens blaring about Biden’s strategy in Afghanistan, as well as heightening concern about covid-19.

These anxieties have set off a fresh round of intraparty finger-pointing.

Many Democrats increasingly fear that the tenets of Biden’s presidency - competence, calm and control - can credibly be called into question for the first time, potentially laying a foundation for devastating consequences in the 2022 midterm elections. ...

There's a major hurricane headed straight for New Orleans due to hit with full force within the next 24 hours. (true).  Biden's not going to alter the direction of the hurricane using a sharpie pen, nor drop nuclear weapons on it, so it's going to be his fault.

It doesn't matter what Biden does. August is almost over so Donald Trump is certain to be reinstated any moment now!

A lot can also happen between now and the next election too.

I always thought the war in Afghanistan (and also Iraq) were Bush's pet/vanity projects, only taken on because of Saddam. I doubt Bush cared that much about Afghanistan, but I speculated he had to go through there to get to Iraq anyway.
