Lie Witness News – Trump Replaces Ruth Bader Ginsburg with Ivanka

wondering just how far would be too far for Republicans who support Donald Trump, so we went out on the street to take a socially distant survey. We asked people what they thought of Trump's decision to nominate his daughter Ivanka to be the next Supreme Court Justice.

"I can imagine him doing those things, that's the crazy part"

WT*! It took the sexy skimpily clad "Dumb Blonde", NOT, at the end to ask the correct questions. Jeez. I'll never make a "Dumb Blonde" joke again.

I remember when I did my OE in 1980 and I was on a Contiki Tour down the Rhine, one of our group called Dead Ants (without the tagging part), which we all duly did. Well there was a whole bunch of the Blue Rinse and Plaid trouser American set on board. They thought we were the entertainment, they all took photos on their oversized cameras and they wanted to tip us. Americans are soooooo gullible.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I can see this totally working well... for Putin. And Trump using it as the argument for "Russia did not interfere in the 2020 elections"

"Putin says Russia and U.S. should agree not to meddle in each other's elections"

President Vladimir Putin called on Friday for an agreement between Russia and the United States to guarantee not to engage in cyber-meddling in each other’s elections.

In a statement ahead of the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 3, Putin called for a reset between Russia and the United States and said he wanted an agreement between the two countries to prevent incidents in cyberspace.

“(I propose)... exchanging guarantees of non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, including electoral processes, including using information and communication technologies and high-tech methods,” he said.

Moscow’s relations with Washington are at post-Cold War lows as the election looms.

U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election with the aim of tilting it in Donald Trump’s favour, including by hacking into the campaign of his rival Hillary Clinton. Moscow denies that charge.

Trump is currently campaigning for re-election against Democrat Joe Biden.

“One of the main strategic challenges of our time is the risk of a large-scale confrontation in the digital sphere,” Putin said in the Kremlin statement.

“We would like to once again appeal to the United States with a proposal to approve a comprehensive program of practical measures to reset our relations in the use of information and communication technologies (ICT).”

He proposed the two countries reach an agreement to prevent major cyberspace incidents, something he compared to a 1972 U.S.-Soviet treaty reached at the height of the Cold War to prevent incidents at sea and in the air from escalating.

He also called for the two countries to fully restore communication lines between their respective agencies to discuss key international information on security issues.

As per the last line, I can imagine Trump saying "You folks have to give everything you have to the Russians." and never getting anything back.

I read that in John Bolton's book. All he loves doing is kissing arse to dictators so they think highly of him, but they don't give Trump anything in return. Just look at all the failed diplomatic "missions" with North Korea, that amounted to exactly...0.

Before nathan says it, yes, Trump did meet with Kim - but so what? Nothing came of it.

HuffPost: Attorney General William Barr Briefed Trump On Probe Over Discarded Pennsylvania Ballots

The Justice Department is facing criticism for publicizing an ongoing investigation to Trump’s benefit.

Attorney General William Barr personally briefed President Donald Trump on a probe into what the Justice Department is calling “reports of potential issues with a small number of mail-in ballots” in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, a DOJ official told ABC News on Friday.

That information comes a day after the Justice Department took the unusual step of revealing details about an ongoing investigation, which White House critics decried as an attempt to bolster Trump’s repeated and largely baseless claims that mail-in voting is ripe for fraud.

The DOJ did so after Trump began discussing it during an interview with Fox News Radio.

“They were Trump ballots ... and they were thrown in a garbage can. This is what’s going to happen,” Trump said in the interview. “This is what’s going to happen, and we’re investigating that.”

Later that day, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania shared more details, saying there were nine discarded ballots for Trump. The office later corrected the statement to say only seven of the votes were for the president....

The Washington Post - Majority says winner of presidential election should nominate next Supreme Court justice, Post-ABC poll finds

today

The Post-ABC poll, conducted Monday to Thursday, finds 38 percent of Americans say the replacement for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg should be nominated by Trump and confirmed by the current Senate, while 57 percent say it should be left to the winner of the presidential election and a Senate vote next year.

The Washington Post - Opinion - This is not a drill. The Reichstag is burning.

today

America, this is not a drill. The Reichstag is burning.

For five years, my colleagues and I have taken pains to avoid Nazi comparisons.

It is usually hyperbolic, and counterproductive, to label the right “fascists” in the way those on the right reflexively label the left “socialists.”

But this is no longer a matter of name-calling.

With his repeated refusals this week to accept the peaceful transfer of power - the bedrock principle that has sustained American democracy for 228 years - President Trump has put the United States, in some ways, where Germany was in 1933, when Adolf Hitler used the suspicious burning of the German parliament to turn a democracy into a totalitarian state.

Overwrought, you say? Then ask Yale historian Timothy Snyder, a top authority on Nazism and Stalinism.

The Reichstag has been on a slow burn since June,” he told me. “The language Trump uses to talk about Black Lives Matter and the protests is very similar to the language Hitler used - that there’s some vague left-wing conspiracy based in the cities that is destroying the country.”

Trump, as he has done before, has made the villain a minority group.

He has sought, once again, to fabricate emergencies to justify greater powers for himself.

He has proposed postponing elections.

He has refused to commit to honoring the results of the election.

And now, he proposes to embrace violence if he doesn’t win. ...

"Reporter lost International Women of Courage award for criticising Trump"

Aro was due to receive the award in March 2019. Rescinding it, the state department insisted she had not been a finalist and blamed the confusion on a “regrettable error”.

But Foreign Policy magazine reported that Aro was punished “after US officials went through [her] social media posts and found she had also frequently criticized President Donald Trump”.

CNN quoted its report as saying: “Every person interviewed in connection with this matter acknowledged that had [the Office of Global Women’s Issues] not highlighted her social media posts as problematic, Ms Aro would have received the IWOC award.”

According to the OIG, ambassador to Finland Robert Pence said that “although he appreciated Ms Aro’s work, the risk of embarrassment to the first lady [Melania Trump] and the department was too great to have her appear on stage at the awards ceremony.”

In March last year, the ambassador, a Republican donor not related to vice-president Mike Pence, told the Senate committee he had not been “worried” by Aro’s posts. The then acting director of the Office of Global Women’s Issues said the posts had “not really” caused the withdrawal of the award.

She's great when criticising other people. Not so much for Donald. Also, talking about Women of Courage and "the risk of embarrassment to the first lady [Melania Trump]" in the same article. What a joke.

The Washington Post - Tumultuous path to sixth conservative justice puts Supreme Court in the middle of political fray

today

... It is difficult for the public to see the court as politically neutral “when a primary reason being given in favor of an expedited Senate confirmation hearing is ... so the new justice can be there in time to vote in a way that will ensure the reelection of the president who just nominated them,” said Richard J. Lazarus, a Harvard University law professor who studies the court. ...

Here's Trump's SC nominee arguing against appointing SC judges during election year:

https://edition.cnn.com/videos/politics/2020/09/24/amy-coney-barrett-balance-of-power-scotus-chuck-schumer-ebof-vpx.cnn

Oh wait - that was when Obama was POTUS.

This from a paper she wrote:

While mere identification of a judge as Catholic is not sufficient reason for recusal under federal law, the authors suggest that the moral impossibility of enforcing capital punishment in such cases as sentencing, enforcing jury recommendations, and affirming are in fact reasons for not participating.

Of course she'll recuse herself from being involved in overturning Roe vs Wade /s

Feel sorry for America if Trump gets away with this - which he probably will.  Unfortunately for us, we tend to follow US "culture", for better sometimes - but in this case would be worse.

I'm feel sorry for US women, in particular poor US women. It seems like many old white millionaire powerful American men care more about uteruses than helping to raise healthy and loved children.

But honestly I think Americans are getting what they deserve.

There's lots of sayings:

New Testament: "A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction"

Old Testament: "For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind."

Joseph de Maistre: Every nation gets the government it deserves.

and one I find apropos to Trump gassing protestors for a publicity stunt holding a Bible, and unmarked federal agents arresting Black Lives Matter protesters in Portland, Oregon, at Trump's urging:

Benjamin Franklin: "They who can give up essential Liberty to obtain a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Amen to that.

Unfortunately, when Americans get what they deserve, the rest of world get what they don't deserve.
