In one of the Russian victory parades after WWII where they paraded captured German troops through the streets an old Russian woman is recorded as having said "harassed/harried into war, just like our boys". It's always been like that.

And some of those German PoWs didn't get back from the USSR til 1955 !

3.3 million unfortunates were in Russian captivity in Gulags. These "some" who did NOT return were 1.1 million. My father was lucky at the time, after years in Russia under heavy combat conditions he was last in Italy when war was over, only two weeks in comfortable American captivity and was then allowed home as a confirmed non-Nazi.

OT side notes:

1) In Germany, at Christmas 1981, a tenant deliberately splashed surströmming broth in the stairwell. Her tenancy agreement was terminated without notice. The Regional Court of Cologne confirmed the termination after a can of Surströmming was opened during the oral hearing (LG Köln v. 12 January 1984 - 1 S 171/83, WuM 1984).

2) The transport of surströmming cans is expressly forbidden on British Airways and Air France flights because of concerns about the risk of explosion.

I guess leaving stashes of this for starving Russian soldiers may contravene the 1925 Geneva Protocol for the use of chemical and biological weapons in war.

Perun in his Youtube lectures also covered another aspect of the costs.
If most of the cost is spent in your own country to make them,
then much of that circulates back into your own economy.

If the cost is mainly old systems that you were storing, and about to obsolete then it's the scrap value.
Like our aviation strike arm, the countries most likely to buy we could not sell to so eventually gifted to museums or scrapped.
Even Nato 155 ammunition, expired date ammo is being donated and used, along with sprinkling of newer fancier guided ones.

I've always thought that the American intelligence guys must be rubbing their hands with glee while they watch this war play out. They've been able to observe Russian strategies, strengths and weaknesses; they will have learnt a lot. No doubt they'll also have their own people on the ground that have been able to retrieve wrecked or discarded equipment and ship it back to the US for analysis. And of course the Russian stockpile of weapons and ammo will have taken a big hit and will take time to restock.

Totally, this war is a bargain. Not a single US soldier lost, and better yet, someone else (Ukraine) has to eventually pay for all the weapons and ammo.

Kherson, and now word of some Ukrainian forces on other side of river.
On Kinburn peninsula.
It seems behind the thin layer of towns beside the river its a big sand trap until Crimea.

More likely that the attempt on Dugan's life came from Putin's own security services.
To eliminate a future potential threat.
Like if Ukraine had a team capable of this why choose him above 100 other candidates.

The only thing I think they've confirmed is that an explosion on farmland has apparently killed two people in Poland. Still waiting for confirmations as to whether it was a deliberate act, or stray fire, or something else. Lots of unknowns. Everyone is on edge. Responses will depend on what actually happened, of course. If it cannot be confirmed as a deliberate attack, I don't think a heavy response from NATO will happen. If it was deliberate, while different ballgame.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.
