freitasm:

@nathan if people "see" that rich people are so afraid that they do anything to hide how they keep not paying taxes, perhaps things can change.

It doesn't matter who put the tax law in places. What matters is what people can do when they realise what those laws allow people to get away with.

Trump fighting to not show his tax return forms for years simply show rich people know they are not contributing to society and don't want this exposed.

All this noise is good to expose. As the Washington Post says "Democracy dies in darkness".

Your posts, on the other hand, are always trying to lay blame and sowing doubt - never actually giving a solution.

I'm not sowing doubt whatsoever, just helping uncloud your eyes from reality.  I continually find it bizarre how shooting the messenger is seen as a positive thing here.

why do you believe there would be change?  Obama had 2 years - 2008-2010 when the Dems owned the WH, the Senate and the House and they could've changed virtually anything they liked, and they didn't.

How much more evidence do you need, we are being lied to.

Who cares what propaganda WaPo pushes - how much tax does Amazon and Bezos pay?

Trump only doesn't want his taxes exposed, because he needs to keep up the public-image-fantasy, of a successful self-made businessman playboy, that he cultivated with The Apprentice

I get the feeling Trump will just wing it again when he comes to the debates, kinda like he did in 2016 as well.

I was wondering if they will hire actors and do simulated debates before.

Obviously they don't have to look like their opponent, or even be male.

If both camps do hire substitute debaters, I think an actors would be able to do a more accurate Trump than Biden.

There's so much source material for Trump, and frankly Trump has a more limited range.

Both are unpredictable,

On the "pros" Trump's hot buttons are easier to push: question his riches / business success / ties to Russia.

On the "cons" Trump lengthy experience is courtrooms give him lots of training in deflection.

I'm sure Trump will put forward ad hominem attacks, straw men, appeals to ignorance, false dichotomies, red herrings

Hopefully the moderators press for actual answers.

America makes history at 2PM there, as the first ever televised debate between a terminal narcissist and a literal dead person will be held at moderated by Chris Wallace of Fox News.

the first debate has always been the most important one, especially this time, since so many mail-in voting, but battle lines are already drawn, virtually no one is going to be moved

It's going to be fun watching Biden trying to out-Republican, or out-lie Trump

For despair or entertainment, join in on this drinking game, see you there

aren't forums a place where you can have debates, that might be difficult to hear, but expand your world view?

Is it Trump vs Biden?  As I see it its I love Trump vs Get Trump Out

Is Biden a good option? Doesnt matter as its not Trump which is all that matters, and if they vote Biden they are knowingly voting Kamala Harris who can be the President-in-waiting, if and when Biden passes or gets sick, so you not only remove the evil one, you are effectively securing a viable near future President. Its possible that she was shielded from the sharks as a running mate, let Joe take care of that.

I was beginning to wonder if anyone else had noticed the nay-thalm bombing. The multiple postings are like Trump's serial tweets.

Personally, I don't read any of his stuff, or even responses.

numerous GZ members "multiple post" here, why cancel the ones you don't like?

fair enough, that's the same as what the leadership in both the Dems and Reps do to 70% of Americans

US Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has released his tax returns just hours ahead of the first debate with President Donald Trump.

Mr Biden and his wife Jill paid nearly $288,000 in income tax last year, according to the filings.

He has called on the president to release his returns. ...

Mr Biden's running mate Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff reported $3,018,127 in taxable income, most of this was from Mr Emhoff's partnership at a law firm.

A Biden win probably won't make things appreciably better in the short term. But it would likely slow the gradual slide into the dystopian future awaiting the US if Trump gets another 4 years.

A return to business as usual is not what the US needs, but for the moment, it's the only realistic alternative available given the current dysfunctional system they are saddled with.

Any POTUS except Trump will repair damaged international relations, anyone with a half a brain can do that now. Rejoin the international community, no more tade wars. That will be easy, and if thats all he does, thats fine with me

It is a step, but after Trump no-one will fully trust the USA again for a very long time. What is to say the rabid right won't elect another demagogue in four years or eight? The damage Trump has done is severe and not easily repaired.

It won't be as easy as that. The US has conclusively proven that every other president they lurch further and further to the radical right. Reagan, Bush I, Bush II, Trump. There is no reason to think that Biden won't be succeeded by Trump II - smart and capable. It's going to take more than some empty, soothing words and assurances he's in no position to give for Biden to fix the mess that Trump has made. I doubt he'll even go after these criminals in any meaningful way. Like Obama, he will no doubt let them all go in order to 'heal the nation'. In a narrow sense, Trump was right the first time round: their current system needs to burn to the ground and be rebuilt.

But more than that, the people themselves need radical attitude adjustment. The fact that the checks & balances aren't curbing Trump in any way is less a failure of imagination on the part of the Founding Fathers and more about the fact that there is a huge chunk of the US population who agree with it. Rebellion and the screw-you-I-got-mine mercenary libertarian attitude were baked into the US from 1776, and preached into the people from birth. There is no "government with the consent of the people" there anymore.

Unfortunately there's no chance to just put them out in the cold till they get over themselves. With a bigger military than the next half-dozen combined and a nuclear arsenal with global reach and pinpoint precision, they don't have to.

Things will get uglier before they get better.
