Its been happening all over occupied Ukraine.
Children disappear, not just orphans.
School holiday camps in Russia etc, then families find they don't come back and can't be contacted.

The conditions were spartan, but they were safe and cared for. Protected — or so they thought. Then one day the Russians came for the children, first forcing them back to the orphanage and then abducting them.

"The Russians were under fierce attack from Ukraine’s army," Koznynec says. "So they loaded the children onto buses and drove them in a column with grad rocket launchers, using them as human shields."

Amid the daily reports of the horrors of war, the abduction barely made a ripple.

A song recommend to me by a young Ukrainian woman, living through the war

Лінія Маннергейма – Де твоя лінія?
"Mannerheim Line - Where is your line?

The band's name is "The Mannerheim Line." It was a defensive fortification line built by Finland against the Soviet Union.

There's obviously no intention by the Russians to win hearts and minds.

This is plain to see from this invasion and any good will towards Russia from the end of the Soviet Union is gone. I see some former Soviet states which had left their Soviet-era war memorials have pulled them down.

There's a Soviet-era war memorial in Berlin which will probably be maintained as Germany agreed to keep it as part of the re-unification treaty. It's officially called the tomb of the unknown soldier but apparently it's mostly referred to as the 'tomb of the unknown rapist'.

I hope the Russians lose this war and lose it bigtime.

Russian friendly fire. No blood / no gore.

The Russian soldiers are yelling "same team".

Video quality is not great, but it's hard to shoot a video when your comrades are trying to killyou.

That seems to be a common theme in European countries liberated by the Red Army, the one in Vienna is called that too.

Honestly my knowledge of eastern European tensions have been weak.

I practice English with Ukrainians. Most have good mental health and good spirits, but younger ones are frequently full of rage, and wanting bloody vengeance against Russians.

However I've wondered why Poles seem have also hate the Russians more than I'd expect. I know Russia has bullied Poland for centuries, but the hatred of Poles against Russians is more intense than I'd expected.

Anyhow I came across this old article from 2009 from a private firm "International Relations and Security Network" part of the "Center for Security Studies" out of Switzerland:

2009 Intel Brief: Poland On Edge Over Russian Drills

Joint 2009 Russian-Belarusian war games, conducted in mid-September in Kaliningrad Oblast, the Russian exclave between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic Sea, were part of the largest war games Russia has conducted at the eastern border of NATO territory since the end of the Cold War.

The exercises, code named operation ‘Zapad-2009,'' included a simulated nuclear attack against Poland, suppression of an uprising by a Polish minority in Belarus and, despite being classified as defensive, included many operations of an offensive nature.

The war games likely were Russia's demonstration of strength and another attempt to intimidate Poland into cancelling any cooperation with the US on the issue of European missile defense.

Despite Polish government efforts to improve relations between the two countries, a new series of political confrontations between Russia and Poland is likely in the near future.

Many Poles, wary of Russia’s perceived imperialistic ambitions and its perception of Central and Eastern Europe as the Kremlin’s sphere of influence, regard the recent exercises as another attempt at intimidation by their eastern neighbor.

I remember the story about a Polish person being asked many years ago as to whether they considered the Russians their friends or their brothers.

Without hesitating he said our brothers of course........ we choose our friends.

Some years ago a friend of mine was in Poland ordering food at a restaurant and needed to communicate with the waittress but didn't speak Polish and they had no other language in common except Russian. The one language he definitely wasn't going to use on a Polish person was Russian even if it meant he ended up with completely the wrong dinner.

I'm sure everyone already seen this video "Russian soldiers steal racoon as they flee Kherson, Ukraine officials claim". Other zoo animals were stolen also.

In zoos, maybe Ukrainians should dye some skunks and badgers hair to look like Racoons.

I guess "liberate" means a different thing to Russian soldiers.

Warning: rough treatment of a captive animal. No blood.

I feel that this is a bit unfair. Do you really expect that companies that are leaving Russia are going to set fire to their factories, warehouses and retail shops on the way out? That would be a crime in its own right.

So yes, all that existing stock on hand can still be sold, and the factories can be run - at least until they run out of raw materials. In many cases it would be months before the sanctions really started to bite. Though some quicker than others - the ex-(Renault??) factory in Moscow is still churning modern looking cars ... Emphasis on looking, since now they've used up their stocks of advanced electronics the internals are reverting to the 1970s.

In other cases, it can probably go on indefinitely. There's no magic in Levi's jeans. The factory that made them can keep on turning out jeans that look exactly like Levi's forever and if sanctions don't prevent Russia from getting any cotton, there's really nothing that Levis can do about it.

I don't think Wagner Group members would eat rats. Professional courtesy.
