Not quite Trump but I can't resist this. North Carolina is strongly Republican but a Democratic senate challenger, Cal Cunningham has been polling well against the Republican incumbent. Then Cunningham was caught out having an affair and Democrats thought his chances were blown in the conservative state. Now a new poll has come out and Cunningham has increased his lead! Way to go, infidelity!

American showman and circus owner Phineas T.Barnum coined the motto: "any publicity is good publicity."

So in the circus that's American politics, and specifically around the Trump the clown, it's mostly correct.

The Washington Post - Supreme Court says Trump administration can shut down census count now, despite fears of an undercount

today

The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the Trump administration to end the 2020 Census count now, concluding a contentious legal battle over the once-in-a-decade household count despite fears of an undercount that would fall hardest on minority groups. ...

Justice Sonia Sotomayor was the only justice to note dissent.

The harms caused by rushing this year’s census count are irreparable,” she wrote. “And respondents will suffer their lasting impact for at least the next 10 years.”

That tweet from Donald saying he authorised the declassification of all documents related to the Russian investigation

Yeah, nah. The Department of Justice is saying that twitter posts are not orders so nothing will be released. This despite the same DOJ saying that his tweets are official presidential statements...

But, hey... What's one more lie?

The Washington Post - Opinion - Republicans are doing Joe Biden’s work for him

today

The irony of President Trump’s fearmongering about mail-in ballots is that an unprecedented level of early voting appears to be underway.  ...

It is far from clear how much in-person campaigning Trump is going to do in the coming weeks, but he is pulling ads down in key states and has walked away from the debate planned for Thursday. ...

Trump gave up on negotiating a second covid-19 stimulus plan ... the one thing that could demonstrate that he cares about the lives of Americans and takes the pandemic seriously. ...

Trump also decided to try to ram through a Supreme Court justice at the last moment, thinking it would be a boost for his base ... underscoring Biden’s criticisms that Republicans are too willing to abuse power, have screwy priorities and maintain antagonism toward health care. ...

The insistence on pushing through with the nominee apparently resulted in a superspreader event at the White House that infected dozens of attendees.  ...

As for the debate, Trump tried to bully his way through with disastrous results.  ...

Trump and Senate Republicans are doing Biden’s work for him.

US election 2020: World reaction to long queues of voters in US

Long queues to vote in the US have been celebrated by some of those who endured them as a welcome sign of enthusiasm. But outside America, there was a different take.

You may think waiting 11 hours to vote would be the height of frustration, but not for one family in Georgia.

"We made it, y'all," says Johnta Austin in one viral video filmed as they reach the front of the queue, describing the lengthy process as an "honour".

With early voting under way across much of the US, social media images show long queues of people, sometimes waiting for hours, patiently inching their way in line towards the polling booth.

Some African Americans, including journalist Roland Martin in Texas, say they wept when they discovered such a motivated electorate on the morning of the vote.

Yes, this is the US and not a misfiled report from Kazakhstan.

Start a party that actually stands for something, or find one that does and join it. All you are doing is making people watch while you pleasure yourself.

Either become an activist willing to stand up for your beliefs, or shut up about it.

I'm not an apologist for the Dems or Trump, opening eyes to the vacant excuses Dems & Republicans use to divide and control us, is activism.

hard to get your head around right?

the long lines seem often to occur in cities with large populations of minorities, so understandable there are accusation of voter suppression - but the system has created this presumption, that when something happens, it must be because the other side did something

but its not just voter enthusiasm this time, its voters wanting to express that enthusiasm, on the opening day of in-person voting, and acerbated by coinciding with the Columbus Day federal holiday.  They're making a statement by voting on day 1, instead of one of the other 18 days

That's odd, I saw a voting paper with his name already printed on it...but he did get his name on the thing in some places, right?

it is odd.  I'm not sure how many states he got his name printed on, its not many.

Write in, when you're already printed on this ballot - bizarre - it all must just be an attempt to hurt Biden

Trump needs to improve margins in PA, speech writers got him to hit Biden where it hurts, in a populist direction

"Biden is a servant of the radical globalists who shipped away your jobs, shut down your factories and, you know it because you really suffered right in this area, threw open your borders and ravaged our cities."

But his script goes off the rails, as he despairs about losing

kingdragonfly: Washington Post: New Zealand Gives U.S. a Lesson in Pandemic Democracy

unbelievable, politically damaging with seniors by talking herd immunity + not talking about stimulus: White House embraces a declaration from scientists that opposes lockdowns and relies on 'herd immunity.'

you can oppose lockdown and oppose herd immunity, instead of choosing the least popular option with the American people

To give you an idea of the scale Texas Governor's limiting counties to one mail ballot drop-off, a number of Texas counties having the same population as Auckland.

So imagine one mail ballot drop-off for all of Auckland, if Auckland covered several times more land.

Despite the Republicans dirty tricks, at least this is good news:

Star Tribune: Despite virus fears, Texas sends most voters to the polls

Early voting began Tuesday with long lines in Texas, one of the few places in the U.S. not allowing widespread mail balloting during the pandemic, and Jill Biden rallied supporters across the red state that Democrats are no longer writing off.

Texas is one of just five states that did not dramatically expand mail-in voting this year because of COVID-19. And hours before polls opened, Republican Governor Greg Abbott's order limiting counties to one mail ballot drop-off box was upheld by a federal appeals court, stopping dozens of shuttered sites around Texas from reopening.

...By Tuesday afternoon, Houston election officials reported more than 100,000 votes had been cast in Harris County, a record turnout for a single day of early voting, which continues through Oct. 30.

Long lines were common at polling sites across Texas, as were masks, although voters are not required to wear them inside polling places. In suburban Houston's Fort Bend County, technical problems kept machines offline for more than an hour as hundreds of people waited to vote. The county's top elected official said he would authorize an investigation.

"The American Independence Party" is considered a joke party in Los Angeles.

Though it's not mentioned in the article the candidate De La Fuente always runs for president.

Newsweek: Here's Why You Might See Kanye West as a Vice President Pick on Your November Ballot

...The American Independence Party (AIP) named West as the VP alongside independent presidential candidate Roque "Rocky" De La Fuente, and neither had a say in it....

...Though there could be a small chance they'll end up running the country together, West and De La Fuente haven't spoken. Newsweek attempted to contact West for comment on the nomination but didn't receive a response. De La Fuente said he hasn't tried to speak with West, and West hasn't reached out, either...
