If direct election of the president would give equal weight to all votes, then the Electoral College works to give outsize weight to a narrow group of voters in a handful of states. That bias is why Donald Trump is president. A healthy plurality chose his opponent, but his supporters dominated key “swing” states.

As a sort of parallel think MMP and Winston Peters supporters holding the balance of power here.

LOSING COULD EXPOSE TRUMP TO PROSECUTION FOR ANY NUMBER OF CRIMES

https://theintercept.com/2020/10/18/trump-election-crimes-prosecution/

Well worth the short read.

We all suspect... But until there is hard evidence presented in front of a court, good luck with that.

And that's also the gist of the article.

Any article with the word "could" in the headline is just wishes from the writer.

Nixon wasn't prosecuted and his crime wasn't disputed AFAIK. No chance with Trump.

Ford pardoned Nixon for anything he might have done during his presidency.

One thing that would outrage me if I was a US taxpayer is that I would be providing security for Chump and Melania as long as they live, long after he's left office.

That is going to be expensive as I doubt he's going to retire to a small place in the country and live the quiet life.

If Trump is impeached and stripped of his presidency, even if after the fact, is he still entitled to security and the other perks?

On a slightly different tack, this article I'd earlier linked to suggests that Trump 'could' be impeached again after he loses this election.

Of course not, the voice in his head has told him he'll be safe.

(According to Pence, God speaks directly to him, for people who don't get the ref).

The only thing that could make Mike Pence change his schedule would be "dining extramaritally."

Mike Pence greatest fear is he can't keep Mister Happy in his pants because of his strong sexual desire.

New Yorker: Mike Pence’s Marriage and the Beliefs That Keep Women from Power

...Vice-President Mike Pence—a hard-line evangelical who has repeatedly called himself “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order”—refuses to dine extramaritally, or, at least, he said as much to the Hill, in 2002.

If he eats alone with a woman, that woman is wife Karen Pence;

If he attends an event where alcohol is served and “people are being loose,” he prefers that his wife be present and standing close to him....

I'm sure Pence is on his knees every day, but it won't be because he's praying 😉

I think that this is timely ...

The Washington Post - Opinion - Skewering Trump is delicious fun, but I can’t shake my case of the satirist’s dilemma

by John Lithgow *

These are giddy days for satirists.

The pompous, incompetent, duplicitous and corrupt characters who have shambled in and out of the Trump administration have provided a mother lode of material. ...

Satire is necessary, and it’s a helluva a lot of fun. But it has its limitations. ...

1. Satire tends to preach to the choir.

The laughter at Trump and company isn’t coming from his base. Their satire of choice is Trump’s cloddish sense of humor, such as it is, on display during his political pep rallies. ...

2. Satire changes almost no one’s mind.

It is cathartic, cleansing and essential. It throws a glaring spotlight on social outrages and makes them live on more vividly in collective memory. But it’s rarely transformative. ...

* John Lithgow is an actor and the author of “Dumpty: The Age of Trump in Verse” and the just-published “Trumpty Dumpty Wanted a Crown.”  (below)

I would disagree with this.

I remember a psychological study where people were timed in celebrity identification. They were given a drawn caricatures and a clear portrait photograph.

People were many times quicker with the caricatures.

(Unrelated, it was pointed out that artificial intelligence fared much worse with caricatures than portraits)

By using an exaggerated representation, it does change a person's perception. Whether that's for good or evil is debatable, but it does change people's minds.

Does that mean that if he has dinner alone with his grandmother, mother, sister or daughter he'll want to shag them long before the pudding turns up?

Good news for cow lovers. I found this gem in the Washington Post:

Not to be outdone, Amedia, pastor of Touch Heaven Ministries in Canfield, Ohio, and a former adviser to the Trump campaign on Christian policy, delivered his own vision of what the country will face if Biden wins: “Progressive Marxist socialism,” “lawlessness,” even an embrace of “animalism” — “somebody can marry a cow and have perverse sex with them.”
