Something about this didn't smell right to me so I took a closer look. I just couldn't believe the Washington Post would touch an add like this.

In fact, the ad was published in the Washington Times, a right-wing rag no-one has heard of. This is from the Wikipedia entry:

"The Washington Times was founded on May 17, 1982, by Unification movement leader Sun Myung Moon and owned until 2010 by News World Communications, an international media conglomerate founded by Moon. It is currently owned by Operations Holdings, which is a part of the Unification movement.

"Throughout its history, The Washington Times has been known for its conservative political stance. It has published many columns which reject the scientific consensus on climate change, on ozone depletion, and on the harmful effects of second-hand smoke. It has drawn controversy for publishing racist content including conspiracy theories about U.S. President Barack Obama, supporting neo-Confederate historical revisionism, and promoting Islamophobia."

In other words, just more extremist static in the background. Nothing to see here, move on.

Anyway there's a Washington Times and a New York Post. The latter is a Murdoch rag.

Standing behind a lectern with the presidential seal and flanked by the American flag, Trump taped a 46-minute address from inside the White House in which he repeated debunked and misleading claims that his election loss was the result of widespread voting fraud and corruption. ...

In his most extensive comments since the election, Trump repeated and expanded upon many of his false claims that the election was rigged.

He suggested overturning the results, invoked the special counsel Russia investigation as evidence that he has been a target of a coordinated effort to end his presidency and called on the U.S. Supreme Court to invalidate the results.

Repeating his baseless allegation that millions of votes in swing states were cast illegally, Trump said that the “results of the individual swing states must be overturned and overturned immediately” and that, “hopefully, the courts, in particular the Supreme Court of the United States, will see it, and, respectfully, hopefully, they will do what’s right for our country.”

Does he really believe this stuff? He sounded sincerely deluded.

Is this just another con, or is he totally losing touch with reality?

To seriously answer your question, the American threshold for "freedom of speech" is very high tolerance, more than even the UK.

Often cited is "yelling 'fire!' in a crowded theatre is not permitted, but just about anything else goes."

"Inciting violence" is technically against the law, but almost never used in the US. More recently a bunch of "hate-speech" laws have taken hold.

Famously the "American Civil Liberty Union" provided free (pro-bono lawyers defending Nazis right to have a parade in jewish part of New York. Of note, the lawyers were predominately Jewish defending the Nazis.

Traditionally civil libertarians defend the right of all speech, including hate-speech, in public forums.

Facebook, Twitter, Parler, MeWe, Gab, Chan, Reddit and Geekzone are private entities, meaning they can dictate whatever freedom-of-speech terms they want.

Their terms of service is often dictated more by advertisers, or perhaps a non-legal vision statement.

Just like a store could ban you from entry permanently without needing justification. The same store can't ban you from using public sidewalk permanently. You could organize a protest using public land outside the store (with some restrictions)

Personally I'm a civil libertarian purist; no matter how repugnant someone's speech, I'd defend their right to say it.

Spoiler alert Maybe(???) Trump can pre-pardon anyone he wants.

The road to hell is often paved with good intentions, like Jimmy Carter's pardon of draft dodgers and the pardon of Confederates holding office (a convenience to end the American civil war quickly).

Generations of Americans just didn't anticipate someone as shameless and unpatriotic as Trump becoming President.

CNN: Can Trump pre-pardon his children?

...Up to now, the power of the pardon has been used very sparingly. The largest pardons were President Andrew Johnson's pardon of ex-Confederates and President Jimmy Carter's pardon of draft dodgers after Vietnam.

The most expansive was President Gerald Ford's blanket pardon of his predecessor Richard Nixon. Issued a month after Nixon's resignation, the idea was the country should move on.

Bowman notes a Supreme Court case, Ex parte Garland, involving ex-Confederates in public positions. The court referenced the nearly unlimited power to pardon: "It extends to every offence known to the law, and may be exercised at any time after its commission, either before legal proceedings are taken, or during their pendency, or after conviction and judgment."

That phrasing -- "at any time after its commission" -- from 1866, would suggest Trump could pardon people for things they've done that have not yet been prosecuted, as Ford did for Nixon, but not for crimes that haven't yet been committed. So is it possible new crimes could come to public light? Sure. Would a Trump pardon work to stop the prosecution of them? That's less clear....

If Humpty Dumpty puts his hand up for the 2024 election, can the RNC/GOP NOT accept it❓and go for another candidate.

I mean after a delusional performance like that the RNC and all other sane and intelligent GOP members must now believe he is certifiable or at least have some form of mental health problem/s and that to support his 2024 bid would create more short and long term damage to the party than he has already done thereby crippling the party for at the rest of this decade. Stat's are now coming out that more and more people voted for Biden who had previously voted for Trump for the simple reason he was bad for the party and America and even though they have been long term Republicans and that if they had voted this time for Trump he would of had a second term.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Out of interest, is someone with knowledge of such a thing, able to explain the big spikes in the graphics he was holding up? I would have thought it fairly unusual to be counting votes at those times of the day, I don't dispute the findings, I was just curious.

I had just assumed they worked all through the night and a batch of postal votes (that are supposed to favour Biden) would have been counted. Could be wrong

By the time President Trump released a lengthy recorded speech Wednesday delineating his various false and debunked claims about fraud in the presidential election, it was already too late.

“There is still plenty of time to certify the correct winner of the election,” he argued, “and that’s what we’re fighting to do.”

But there wasn’t still plenty of time. That’s not just in the sense that, over the past month, he’s been unable to provide any evidence to bolster his claims of fraud. ...

As he spoke, five of the six states that Trump has repeatedly focused on with his unfounded claims of fraud - Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin - had not only certified their results but also transmitted formal certificates of ascertainment to the National Archives with the seal of the state’s governor.

And that, by itself, essentially closes the door.
