That is a pretty sweeping observation. Whether it is true or not I cannot say but I will never get the daily images of weeping fathers in Syria holding their dead children out of my mind.

I am not saying that these people won't feel overwhelming grief at the loss of their children. They are heinous tragedies for sure.

This was pointed out on PBS Newshour, which I was just watching. If they are European or American, it stays in the news while the media wring all they can from it. If it happens in the Middle East, the media shrug and move on to the next item. Unless it happens in Israel, or the media in question are Al-Jazeera.

People are being murdered by other people. Over and over and over again. That is the story.

Well, to be fair, would you expect the Middle Eastern press to cover deaths in the US/UK/Australia/NZ for days on end?

My feeling is that most of those countries in the Middle East, Asia, Russia etc, value individuals lives much less than we do in the West.

That's an interesting one. Perhaps it corresponds with the death penalty.

I am just seeing reports of another vehicle running people down, this time on London Bridge. Details are sketchy so have not yet started a separate thread. People might want to check it out.

Obviously nothing to do with Islam eh?

Still can't fathom how some people try and deny the religious aspect of these attacks.

Simply awful, and if we encourage Islamic immigration it will happen here too. A lesson for us perhaps.

How many more of these psychos are lining up to commit a similar atrocity? Who knows?

Who's trying to do that?

The thing that people should be aware of is that the main purpose of the attacks (from ISIL) is to encourage anti-islamic sentiment, which they expect to be a great recruiting tool for what they believe is the coming end of times.  We'll get what we deserve - if we persecute all muslims for the crimes of a few, yet that's what some lunatics are suggesting.

Sadly the POTUS chief strategist is also on record stating that there will be "holy war" that he expects the west to win - with the result a return of "Christian values" to the entire world.  I guess many in the Muslim world believe that war's already begun - Bannon probably does too.

Easy to say from the relative safety of NZ. One day it will be Queen Street where it happens and I doubt so much tolerance will be found then.

Two confirmed dead so far.

From the Telegraph

A series of co-ordinated terror attacks have hit London in three different areas, with reports of dozens of casualties from stabbings and pedestrians mown down by a vehicle.

The London Bridge area was in lockdown after witnesses said 20 people were run down by a van and pedestrians were attacked with knives at 10.08pm.

There were also multiple reports of rapid gunfire in what one witness described as “Westminster all over again”.

Well you for a start. As when I suggested Islam was motivating people to terrorist attacks your response was, and I quote, "what a load of twaddle"

Just the other day Philippine Muslims were executing people who could not quote the Koran... would you deny the religious reasons behind these murders?

Or are they merely disaffected youth without jobs as some suggest as being the cause?

You support Hamas or Israel? Or neither?

A lot more will have to die before the UK has the stomach to do what's needed.

I do not believe in or care for any religion, but this has nothing to do with the Islamic faith and anyone who seriously maintains that it does is either badly misguided or trying to do mischief. I have spent time travelling in Islamic countries and I lived in Morocco for a month, and the people are just as kind, generous, caring, worried about their children as people anywhere else in the world. It has absolutely nothing to do with Islam, regardless of what labels are being misappropriated. ISIS, Islamic State, as they like to call themselves, has been rightly termed a death cult. They will be very pleased with some of the sentiments being expressed here. Bring out the mindless hate and prejudice, get everyone fighting amongst themselves, spread fear, divide and conquer. Some of you here are doing their job very well indeed.
