to drink from rivers or streams unless desperate This was one of our Risk management rules. If people are doing this, Perhaps it has affected the minds of some of our participants in this forum?

Of course there is a degree of risk, my point is I have never gotten sick from swimming in/drinking river water. Nor has my dog, or anybody else that I know of who has done the same. Gardia is not only found in rivers, some people have even picked it up at public pools. It may even be hiding in your water tank at home. I guess one way of mitigating the risk is to just to shut yourself out from living life.

It's so ironic you make an anti-fluoride comparison, as I'd see your own views in the same vein as that ever-more-common rejection of scientific evidence, whether it be around fluoride, vaccines or climate change.

Somehow, the opinions of all are equal, irrelevant of the actual degree of knowledge and experience of the person making the claim. So your casual observations of a local river, and comments from overseas visitors making comparisons of river clarity, are apparently more meaningful in terms of your views of river quality than those of experts who actually know what they're talking about.

Oh dear.

I live right next to the Waikato river while some swim in it I don't prefer to use the pool wouldnt advise my friends or family to swim in either

Ah yea, good swimming in that lake I hear, when there is no blue-green algae! Have not swam there myself but have heard great things about it. I did hear somewhere that the blue-green algae is a natural phenomenon, so I'm not sure if any taxation can really fix that or not.

As for TukiTuki, I know I would not swim there and have heard of raw sewerage problems (not sure if this was ever fixed?). I would find that a bit worse than cow excrement. How about the locals pay a special tax to get this one fixed? The locals are the source of this problem.

What a shame. I have swam there, rafted there, and even tubed there over the years. Lots of fun. You should try it. Life is too short to worry about what could happen.

What a shame you don't know me from a bar of soap if you did you would know that I have taken many groups of children on this river with rafts Tubes etc even held the record for a raft race

down the river My life style would be equal to many the only thing I haven't done is travel overseas been too busy for that what with golfing twice a week cycling every two or three days picking up grandchildren and looking after them etc I could go on but I am now feeling like I am skiting and this forum was about our politicians and we need to get back to that.

I do accept that, we disagree about what things need fixing, their priorities, and how to pay for it. Increasing taxes to fix things is not going to win any party votes. its never worked in the past, and will not work this time either. I have no issues to increase taxes on those that caused the problem in the first place, but again its political suicide for a party to suggest this, especially just before an election.

Maybe post some pictures? I am not disputing your account, but I'd like to see some every day peoples photos of the areas of the waterways that are polluted (Yes I can google it, but I want to know what real Kiwi's are seeing every day).

I can honestly say in the last 3 years I have been to a number of water heavy areas and I can't recall seeing anything I wouldn't swim in (though I accept not everything bad can be seen with the naked eye).

Again, not disputing there is water pollution.
